how to change smtp greeting

one simple question from me
how do i change my smtp greeting message

from
220 mail.xyz.com ESMTP

to
220 test.xyz.com ESMTP

tried to add a smtpgreeting control file with the new value but when i telnetted to port 25, restart the smtp service and it became like this

220 mail.xyz.com ESMTP test.xyz.com

is it true that some mail servers will reject mails from a mail server which has a DNS entry and smtp greeting that does not match?
