1. You don't need qmail-conf. qmail-ldap patch provides all daemontools
startup scripts except smtp over ssl. smtp over ssl usually is not needed.
qmail-ldap startup scripts provide more options, are customized according
to qmail-ldap layout and use documented /var/qmail/control/*.rules files
to control tcpservers' environment.

2. remove all links and files from /service directory. restart your server
in order to clean all leftover processes or stop all still running
tcpserver and qmail-* processes.

3. make sure that there is no qmail-* process is started.

'*' means any word. qmail-send, qmail-smtpd, qmail-remote, etc.

4. check qmail configuration with /var/qmail/bin/qmail-showctl. Rename
/var/qmail to /var/qmail.bak and reinstall qmail-ldap if you suspect that
qmail installation is corrupted.

5. make sure that all /var/qmail/control/*.cdb files are created by
issuing command 'make' in /var/qmail/control directory

6. start qmail delivery by adding link to /var/qmail/boot/qmail in
/service directory. make sure that qmail is started. check 'svstat
/service/qmail'

7. If you use Fedora Core3 or newer, RHEL or CentOS, set SELinux to
permissive mode in order to make sure that your setup problems are not
caused by SELinux libraries. You can find appropriate commands in SELinux
FAQ. http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/selinux-faq/

8. Make sure that tcp/25 port is not used by any other server and start
qmail's smtp server by adding link to /var/qmail/boot/qmail-smtpd in
/service directory. make sure that it is started (svstat
/service/qmail-smtpd). Please read QLDAPINSTALL documentation about
pop-before-smtp and disable it in smtp server's environment or configure
and start pop-before-smtp service.

SMTP server's environment is controlled with
/var/qmail/control/qmail-smtpd.rules and
/var/qmail/control/qmail-smtpd.rules.cdb files. qmail-smtpd.rules.cdb file
must be rebuilt every time your modify qmail-smtpd.rules.

Please read qmail INSTALL and qmail-ldap QLDAPINSTALL documentation about
installing and configuring your server. Follow installation and
configuration testing steps. It is hard to install qmail for the first
time. You must read and follow documentation. It is even harder to get
ldap working correctly if you don't understand what you are doing and your
OS packager does not provide already configured LDAP server. Read
installation docs, follow documentation and check error logs.
