        Are you using qmail-ldap patch? Or are you using qmail
with something like vpopmail querying LDAP?

        Yes, in qmail-ldap you can point to a root node and it
will walk the entire tree looking for pre-defined objects. But
you will probably need to use overlays to ensure the unique of
some attributes.

"combining two trees into one" means to you.

        If you use separate qmail-ldap for separate trees, it
tends to be faster *if* you have really large trees, depending
on the size of your tree it doesn't make any difference.

        I'm not quite sure I understand that, but you can simply
inject the object from one tree into the other using something
like ldapadd. Or create a third tree, and add the new combined
elements from both old trees to the new one.
