Sorry for causing some irritations.

As Jose Celestino said, crypt itself limits the length.
Well, our mail servers are not equal in all parts, due to many
migrations we had to do.

So I checked again and on qmail-ldap reverencing to an ldap
with crypt passwords, only the first eight chars are checked
all others ignored.

Reverencing to an ldap with md5, clear text, sha passwords
are taking longer char chains.

Traditional crypt definitely only takes the first eight, but
it is possible to enhance crypt.
