Nope, they are only needed if you don't have a default config in
control/ldap{uid,gid}. In most cases people just need to set the default
config files.
QLDAPINSTALL lists all the control files used / added by qmail-ldap and
describes what they are used for and if the are required or not.
Also have a look at the "DEFAULT LDAP PARAMETER FIELDS" section of the
same file.
