I have been requested to implement virus scanning on all incomming email for one department at a local college.
My thought was to use qmail, qmail-scanner and sophie on a local workgroup mail server. Normally I setup a qmail, qmail-scanner, sophie, and spamassassin package for my clients so I am not a complete stranger to qmail,etc. Not a guru by any means, but ... Since, in this case, I can not change anything related to DNS, I thought of having getmail grab the messages off of the main college server and feed them into qmail. I would need to change the users email programs to point their pop3 settings to this machine. My concern is where in the chain of events does getmail inject the message into qmail? or does it place it directly into the users Maildir? If this is the case, then my whole idea will fail since it won't get scanned by Sophos. Anyone have some docs, how-to's for this type of thing? The outbound messages can still go out through the college smtp server. I'm not concerned with that as much.
