RFC 1123 requires you to accept mail with a blank "mail from:"

Bounce messages from most (all?) MTA come from a blank "mail from:" to prevent loops.
If you do not accept mail with blank mail from: you will no longer get bounces and
risk being blacklisted on the RFC Ignorant list

Hi Qmail Scanner List,

I seem to have a behaving linux 2.4.21 / 1.4gig SMP / 2 gig ram / qmail 1.03
/ qmail-scanner 1.16 / sophie / spamd installation after the weekends
events! I got to work this morning and the load did not go above 3 during
the morning rush even when I had 10 pop3d's running, 20 qmail-smtpds and 5
or 6 spamd and sophies. So I am a happy man atm who still has a job and an
"idle" load avg of about 0.8.

At about midday I fired a 3 or 4 mails in with "no sender or recip found"
and the load went up too high to 6 or 7 - for some reason my installation
can't handle these as well as normal mails and it would appear that I am
more or less on the boxes limit anyway. Note I haven't had any of these in
from the wild today like i did all day friday :\

So my question is how can I get qmail-smtpd to NOT accept

helo foo.com
MAIL FROM:
RCPT TO:
DATA
some data here where there is no mail from and rcpt to
.

As I understand only a virus or spam will ever look like this?

I think other people on here mentioned off list that their qmail doesn't
accept blank MAIL FROM: RCPT TO: so how have you achived this? Is this
qmail-scanner or some other qmail-smtpd patch? If the connections get
dropped there then I have no potential problem!

Thanks in advanced

Pete
