Hello,
We've been using qmail-scanner for some time now and we wanted to
install Spam Assassin. For some reason, when you use CPAN to install the
stiff for spam assassin, it requires you to upgrade to perl 5.8.2.
5.8.2's suidperl is screwed up or something it gives one of the two
follow errors when qmail-scanner runs:
1) permission denied
or
2) YOU HAVEN'T DISABLED SET-ID SCRIPTS IN THE KERNEL YET!
FIX YOUR KERNEL, PUT A C WRAPPER AROUND THIS SCRIPT, OR
USE -u AND UNDUMP!
The bug this error message is referring to seems to be a 2.0.x and a
2.2.x bug... I have 2.4.22. After some reading through perl's page, I
made a simple c wrapper per their instructions to call qmail-scanner. It
works fine from the command line when I do the z, -g, and r options.
When I try to display the 'help' page it does this:
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue.pl version [unknown] calling
Getopt::Std::getopts (version 1.04 [paranoid]),
running under Perl version 5.8.2.
Usage: qmail-scanner-queue.pl [-OPTIONS [-MORE_OPTIONS]] [--]
[PROGRAM_ARG1 ...]
The following single-character options are accepted:
Boolean (without arguments): -v -h -g -r -z
Options may be merged together. -- stops processing of options.
[Now continuing due to backward compatibility and excessive paranoia.
See "perldoc Getopt::Std" about $Getopt::Std::STANDARD_HELP_VERSION.]
I've seen a couple posts about perl 5.8.x and QS not working together
and lots of people simply reply "you dont have suidperl installed;
redhat requires a separate package blah bla". Well, I've install perl
FROM SOURCE and suidperl is installed (OS is RH7.3--the RPMS are not an
option for anything that's not running that newer version of GLIBC 9
runs); Perl has just ruined it apparently. Will qmail-scanner not run
through a C wrapper? *ALL* of the programs I have run properly through
this wrapper (minus qmail-scanner). If not is there anyway to get
5.8.2 and QS to play nicely together? This seems to be a big problem
from what I see on the netcan someone post a howto with this scenario??
TIA
