Hi there,

I just tested this and I was still getting fork errors from tcpserver
at around 20-22 connections with -m 52:

Mar 11 07:06:51 loki smtpd: 1079006811.868008 Cannot fork: Resource temporarily unavailable

Is there by any chance a limit to the number of processes FreeBSD can
spawn in a certain time interval?

As a secondary note, I notice that I often have very long-running qmail-smtpd processes doing nothing (truss gives silence until they reach the 20 minute timeout and return 256). I've cut down the timeout to two minutes instead....Could something other than client weirdness or deliberate attempt cause this?

This probably doesn't belong here: if it doesn't, I'll happily stop
talking about it and move on to the qmail list.

Thanks,

-Justin
