off-topic, MUA to mail system files

Hello,

How do you folks mail system files (say logs for example)?


I can do it from the shell with 

     mail user -s Subject 
     ~r/tmp/filename
     .

But I can't get it to work from a script. I can't figure out how to give 
it the EOF. I've tried everything in the mail man pages, but no luck.
