Hi thanks for everyones help so far,
I'm not sure if I've progressed or not.

I tried:
make setup check  and it just did this:

> make setup check
./install
./instcheck
>

I also tried running qmail-qsanity as suggested elsewhere and that
produced no output at all, just returned to the prompt. No idea what
if anything that did.

Oh well, watching the log file to see if things are better...
