i have a mail server, ares.pfeiffer.edu
i do not wish it to accept mail for [EMAIL PROTECTED]
i wish it to accept mail for [EMAIL PROTECTED]

this works very well, control/me says:
pfeiffer.edu

control/rcpthosts says:
localhost
pfeiffer.edu

i use tcpd and the RELAYHOSTS env. var to fight spam.

now the problem.
this machine must also accept mail for
[EMAIL PROTECTED], since this machine no longer exists.

i made jfh.pfeiffer.edu a cname to ares.pfeiffer.edu, and
added jfh.pfeiffer.edu to rcpthosts.

when i send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] via qmail-inject
or via sendmail replacement, it works. but, if sent via
smtp, i get a reply back saying that mail cant be delivered
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] cause it is not in rcpthosts.

what is going on? i sent mail to user@jfh, but the errors say
user@ares?

i fixed this by making DNS say that this machines fqdn is
jfh.pfeiffer.edu, and made ares.pfeiffer.edu the cname instead

now all is well. why do smtp mails re-write the hostname?????
