Yes, and make the MX preference value higher relative to any other.

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a list<-->gateway at home. I am using DNews on
RedHat 5.2 as the news server.

DNews has a program "xmit" which takes messages posted to a group and
does "something" with them. For gating newsgroups into mailing lists,
it takes all messages sent to the specified groups and forwards them to
mail addresses.

In my case, it takes all messages from "local.list.qmail" and forwards
them to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (ie my local mail server). I have
the following entry in qmail/users/assign:

+local_list_:news:9:13:/home/news:-:local_list_:
.

And the following in /home/news/.qmail-local_list_qmail:

|qmail-inject [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

(skittle.demon.co.uk is my external domain).

This all appears to work fine, except I get the following message back
from the list when I send messages:

Date: 13 Mar 1999 19:45:49 -0000
Subject: failure notice
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Newsgroups: local.list.qmail
X-Gateway-From: add_from_switch_to_drobot

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at muncher.math.uic.edu.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following
addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I do not accept blind carbon copies. Please use To or Cc.

Does qmail-inject use Bcc to address messages? Or is there some error
somewhere else?

Thanks,

Hmmm. A second problem I'm having is that I'm using fetchmail to pull
mail from my ISP and deliver it locally. eg I'm subscribed to this list
as [EMAIL PROTECTED] I use
/home/news/.qmail-list-qmail to inject messages into my local news
system:

|/usr/local/dnews/drobot -dir /var/spool/dnews/mailnews -groups
local.list.qmail

The problem is that fetchmail pulls all mail from the server OK and
injects it locally into my mail system but it seems to use the "To:"
line and immediately re-send the message back to the list!!! eg This
is what happened to my previous message:

1999-03-13 20:15:55.553345 new msg 23851
1999-03-13 20:15:55.553466 info msg 23851: bytes 3580 from
<qmail-return-28456-news-list-qmail=skittle.demon.co.uk@list.
cr.yp.to> qp 9279 uid 80
1999-03-13 20:15:55.790641 starting delivery 34: msg 23851 to remote
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
1999-03-13 20:15:55.790900 status: local 0/10 remote 1/20
1999-03-13 20:16:30.430142 delivery 34: success:

1999-03-13 20:16:30.430676 end msg 23851

Here's my setup:

locals:
localhost
grafter.local
skittle.demon.co.uk

rcpthosts:
localhost
grafter.local
skittle.demon.co.uk

.fetchmailrc: (in ~alias)
defaults
        forcecr
        mda "/var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject"
        set syslog
poll pop3.demon.co.uk proto pop3 aka mailstore no dns:
        localdomains home.local skittle.demon.co.uk
user skittle with pass <password> is *

Any ideas what I need to do to get the correct recipient address to be
used (ie so the messages are delivered locally to news-list-qmail rather
than being re-sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED]) or am I being bitten by one
of the inherent problems of using fetchmail in this manner?

Hmmmm, again. Is it me or is something strange happening to the return
address in my recent mails?

I use [EMAIL PROTECTED] as my e-mail address but since the list switched
to the [EMAIL PROTECTED] domain, my "i.am" address seems to be being
replaced by "easy.to" - I believe they are administered by the same
organisation.

Ah well, worse things happen at sea!
