My experience (and others on this list) differs. Maildir on a reliable NFS 
system is an excellent way of sharing a filestore across multiple front end 
systems.

A common model is multiple POP servers (Maildir ones that is) using a NetApp 
box. It works exceedingly well.

I agree that NFS is *not* well suited to V7 mailboxes and the associated 
locking.

So, returning to the original question. If IRIX provides a quality NFS 
implementation and you plan to stash incoming email in Maildir format, then 
it should work quite well.
