I'm setting up Qmail for the first time, hoping to move all of my dialup
users over from my pitiful broken SLmail server in the next few days. I'm a
little dumb when it comes to Unix/Linux so forgive me if I have overlooked
something obvious here. I'm using Qmail 1.03 on red-hot 5.0. Qmail was
installed using the 'Memphis' rpm and I am using non-system pop user
authentication as outlined in a HOWTO by Paul Gregg. Maildir is my delivery
method.

I have everything setup and working perfectly on a test server now, but I
seem to have one serious problem. I cannot seem to retrieve larger binary
attachments (>1 MB) using Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger. Normal
mail is delivered and retrieved successfully as are larger graphic (i.e. 200
KB jpeg's). The symptoms are that the clients apparently begin to retrieve
the message, but stop in progress. The percentage of completion seems to
vary. OE eventually gives a message that the Pop3 server has not responded
in 60 seconds. I eventually have to reboot the Windoze machine (surprise)
to stop the locked up retrieval process in OE. I am doing this over a LAN,
so the connection should be very reliable.

I am unable to find anything in the logs that show this interrupted process,
but I may be looking in the wrong places. A search of the archives of this
list has not turned up anyone reporting the same problem. Its critical that
I get this aspect of Qmail working before I switch over, so that they may
send each other 'dancing santa' executables (why? I don't
know).

If anyone has any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong or what I can do
to diagnose the problem, I would be very grateful.
