qmail-pop3d on system mbox files?

Will qmail-pop3d work if mail is delivered in Unix mbox format?

BTW, the reason for the question is that I have users that are using
~/Maildir, but am receiving requests to convert to mbox, and I still
want to use qmail-pop3d for obvious reasons.
