I installed qmail through the RPM package on my Red Hat Linux server
and, when telneting port 110, it shows:
    +OK <1032.927052785@checkpassword>

 --> I think it should be <1032.927052785@hostname>

  After I enter a username and password, and the server complains that the
user doesn't have $HOME/Maildir, whatever username/password I enter - I
get the same error when I give either a correct username/password or a
usarname that doesn't exist in my system.

     In another server (still a Red Hat linux), I installed through the
normal tar.gz way, and installed the qmail-pop3d exactly as described in
FAQ. When I start the POP3 service, it says "soft error", and when
telneting por 110, I can't authenticate any user - it gives me a
authentication failure for everybody!
     In this server I reintalled everything and now it complais about a
"hard error", the port 110 is still open but the POP3 server doen't
respond.

                                         Thank you for any help.
