Yes. Did you restart qmail?

See complete headers for address, homepage and phone numbers
actually it was my own fault.. I saw in the logs that things were getting
delivered, its just that not EVERYTHING was being delivered.. Ive since set my
concurrencyremote to 3 so that it will spoon feed the Lotus Notes server and not
overwhelm it.
Seems to be working ok now..
Thanks for the info

I get delivery 12148: deferral: CNAME_lookup_failed_temporarily._(#4.4.3)/
On any mail being sent to aol.com
Everything else is kosher.
Anyone else having this problem?

This is a common known problem with qmail. AOL's DNS replies are larger
than 512 bytes, which qmail will not handle. 2 solutions:
1. patch qmail to accept DNS packets larger than 512 bytes (patch on
www.qmail.org)
2. Pick one of aol.com's MX records and make an smtproutes entry:
aol.com:za.mx.aol.com

Everyone else is having this problem. Dan predicted that nobody would
*dare* to use DNS records >512 bytes. AOL did, and does. Look on
www.qmail.org for the dns patch.

This is strange. I DON'T have the DNS patch installed and I am able to
send to AOL without any problems.

Check the mailing lists. The problem is that a DNS query of aol.com's MX
list comes back in a reply greater than 512 bytes. The solutions are: 1
(easy, but not always reliable), hardcode one of the MX handlers for
aol.com into control/smtp routes, or 2 (better, more involved) patch qmail
to deal with DNS query results >512 bytes.
More information is available in the mailing list archives.

Your local name server has a work around for this situation. When its
formulated response is over 512 bytes, it will drop the "additional
responses" section. Qmail will receive the MX records, and make an
additional query to fetch any A records it will need.

I installed qmail through the RPM package on my Red Hat Linux server
and, when telneting port 110, it shows:
+OK <1032.927052785@checkpassword>
--> I think it should be <1032.927052785@hostname>
After I enter a username and password, and the server complains that the
user doesn't have $HOME/Maildir, whatever username/password I enter - I
get the same error when I give either a correct username/password or a
usarname that doesn't exist in my system.
In another server (still a Red Hat linux), I installed through the
normal tar.gz way, and installed the qmail-pop3d exactly as described in
FAQ. When I start the POP3 service, it says "soft error", and when
telneting por 110, I can't authenticate any user - it gives me a
authentication failure for everybody!
In this server I reintalled everything and now it complais about a
"hard error", the port 110 is still open but the POP3 server doen't
respond.
Thank you for any help.

Yes, sounds like your inetd.conf entry for POP is wrong.

Just wanted to make a mention to everyone on the list, that Dave Sill's
recent work with 'life with qmail' is much appreciated and is a VERY
informative collection of information. He should be commended. In the very
short time that it has been up, it has been a very valuable source to
point people to.
Thank you very much Dave.

Hi,
My IPP runs qmail on linux w/ apache server.
I have a cgi program that sends a confirmation e-mail to a customer when
they complete an order and one to me.
Here's the problem, 2 e-mails get sent to the customer instead of only one.
I have searched for weeks on my own to find an answer for this. Both the
programmer and the server admin seem to be in denial. I'm just a user, so I
put it before you.
Is there someone who has had this problem? Is it a configuration problem
with qmail or with the cgi?
I will send a snippet of code from the cgi and/or header info privately to
someone who would like to anlyze it for incompatability issues.
Thank You,
Jeremy Leigh

Hi list
Would anyone agree that -judging by the stats shown below- there's currently no reason
to worry about an overloaded qmail system? I think ddelay looks good and average
concurrency too, but then I have no comparison....
Total delivery attempts: 5998
success: 5649
failure: 56
deferral: 293
Total ddelay (s): 320083.112723
Average ddelay per success (s): 56.661907
Total xdelay (s): 92320.138456
Average xdelay per delivery attempt (s): 15.391820
Time span (days): 7.1641
Average concurrency: 0.149149

Hi,
Is there any way to add signiatures to all outgoing emails?
I thought maybe if we got all our staff to add a <SIGNIATURE> part
at the send of there emails, the system could check for this and
replace it with a different sig.
Any other ideas?
Paul

In fact, that's kind of covered in FAQ - just see the "How do I fix the
messages from broken clients" part; if your client doesn't insert a
signature, it is broken (well, kind of) :-)
