In mail script to start qmail (qmail-pop3d.init which came in
the memphis rpm) $HOST was defined as : $(dnsfq $(hostname)).
dnsfq and hostname come with qmail, and the memphis rpm installs them.
`dnsfq $(hostname)' finds your FQDN---if it exists. If your host is
not in DNS, you cannot use this def for HOST. Just put your hostname
in HOST, and all should be well.
In your case, there is a serious problem with your domain name:
nslookup siliconsys.com
Server: dns1.memphis.edu
Address: 141.225.253.21
Name: siliconsys.com
Address: 216.30.60.89
nslookup 216.30.60.89
Server: dns1.memphis.edu
Address: 141.225.253.21
*** dns1.memphis.edu can't find 216.30.60.89: Non-existent host/domain
I think you forgot to make a ptr record for siliconsys.com:
nslookup -query=ptr 216.30.60.89
Server: dns1.memphis.edu
Address: 141.225.253.21
*** dns1.memphis.edu can't find 89.60.30.216.in-addr.arpa.: Non-existent host/domain
It seems neither of the default servers for your domain are
reachable. Indeed
nslookup siliconsys.com DNS6.REGISTER.COM
[...]
*** Can't find server name for address 209.67.50.252: No information
*** Default servers are not available
