Hi,

I've set up a mailing list with EZMLM. Everything works fine but one thing:
I don't have an entire domain to catch returning (bounced) mail so I need
to rewrite the Return-Path. For example from

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

to

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Is there any option I can use or do I have to rewrite the Return-Path
manually?

Thanks for you answers!

Andreas

PS.: It is useles to specify another Return-Path with qmail-inject, because
     EZMLM doesn't use that.

i believe that i'm doing so, but aol relays rotates and i'm receiving
bounces from differents ip's (lot of aol's relays)
Maybe i don't understand filtering fully;
Perhaps there is an script or rule to stop mail bombing by subject or
whatever else.

Thanks again

I've solved by qmail-pw2u problem -it was the obvious requirement of needing
an input file.

However, I still have found the instructions for how to replace /bin/mail
with the appropriate qmail equivalent.

Any suggestions whould be helpful.

Did you use the line:

env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" /bin/csh -cf '/var/qmail/rc &'

?

I got a similar message, but I now my startup-Scripts are working.

And for the start of qmail-smtpd with tcpserver I'm using

echo -n "Initializing SMTP port. (Q-Mail)"
        /bin/csh -cf '/usr/local/bin/tcpserver -R -x/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb
-c100 -u1
001 -g105 0 smtp /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd &' || return=$rc_failed
        echo -e "$return"
        ;;

in the start section.

Maybe this helps you.

I think my problem had to with some '' thing or with the correct path to
csh, I don't remember any more.

Ciao,

Cyril

Either /usr/sbin/qmail is not rxx for root ar your PATH doesn't know how to
find csh.

There need to be an entry in control/rcpthosts for each hosted domain as well.

Thanks, it worked!

I remember that I even read this in the docu's... but forgot about...
When I started the server I only had one domain, thus I put everything I
needed into "locals".

Then way later I needed to add "virtualhosts", and I didnt look into the
docu's again, and simply added "locals" %-(.
I got confused, and panicked! hehehe... And started adding stuff to
"vitualhosts" without removing "locals" entries...
...duuuh... of course that wouldnt work.. .*sigh*

I just needed somone to tell me to use "virtualhosts" and get ridd of
"locals" ;-).

Thx for the quick help,

Andre

Hello,

I am using qmail 1.03 with NetBSD 1.3 for the Mac68K on a Mac SE/30
I have installed the patched version of cyrus 1.5.19 IMAP using CDB.
I am using a virual domain.
I have searched and read the list's archives but have been unable to get
qmail to the mail to cyrus. Mail is still going to the Maildir or
nowhere.

/var/qmail/users/assign contains
=squeegy-org-squeegy:cyrus:108:103:/mail/cyrus/imap:::

/var/qmail/control/virtualdomain contains
squeegy.edu:alias-squeegy

/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-squeegy-squeegy
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

/var/qmail/alias/.qmail
./Maildir/

/var/mail/squeegy is a link to /home/squeegy/Mailbox
/var/mail/cyrus is a link to /mail/cyrus/imap/Mailbox

/mail/cyrus/imap/.qmail contains
|/mail/cyrus/imap/qmail_deliver_wrapper $LOCAL

/home/squeegy/.qmail contains
./Maildir/

/var/qmail/rc contains
exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \
qmail-start '|dot-forward .forward ./Mailbox/' splogger qmail

I created the IMAP mailbox with the below:
cyradm>cm user.squeegy

If I remove the .qmail file from /home/squeegy no mail is delivered.

I also tried adding mailhost to the assign file
/var/qmail/users/assign contains
=mailhost-squeegy-org-squeegy:cyrus:108:103:/mail/cyrus/imap:::
(I did remember to rerun qmail-newu)

I am at a loss as to how to get this to work. Any help would be
appreciated.

Thank you.

I have been having trouble with a qmail installation on Slackware Linux
(kernel 2.2.12). I have had the qmail package on and cleanly off again
serveral times after different patches, add-ons, etc. Let me share some
details and then explain what functionality I am missing.

qmail-1.03 (+relayclient patch)
default paths
default users/groups from INSTALL.ids
group nofiles = 101
group qmail = 1000
user alias id=1001 grp=101
user qmaild id=1000 grp=101
user qmaill id=1002 grp=101
user qmailp id=1003 grp=101
user qmailq id=1004 grp=1000
user qmailr id=1005 grp=1000
user qmails id=1006 grp=1000

/etc/rc.d/rc.local reads:
tcprules /etc/tcp.smtpd.cdb /etc/tcp.smtp.temp < /etc/tcp.smtp
PATH=/var/qmail/bin:$PATH
QMAILDUID='id -u qmaild'
NOFILESGUID="101"
sh -cf '/var/qmail/rc &'
tcpserver 0 smtp /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd -v \
  -x/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb -u$QMAILDUID -g$NOFILESGID \
  2>&1 | /var/qmail/bin/splogger smtpd 3 &

/var/qmail/rc reads:
exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \
  qmail-start " cat /var/qmail/control/defaultdelivery " \
  accustamp

/var/qmail/coontrol/defaultdelivery reads:
./Maildir/

- root and one user (group=root) have a ./Maildir/ in $HOME
- ./Maildir/ is owned by the respective user
- /var/qmail/bin/* rights: user=root group=qmail
  (except: qmail-queue owned by qmailq)

Problem 1:

I can send mail out through SMTP but the only way I can allow relaying is to
rm rcpthosts. Putting the /etc/tcp.smtp values into a cdb with many
different IP's specifying ,RELAYCLIENT="" is not working. Applying the
relayclient patch to use control/relay* is not working. I am wide open for
relay abuse until this is corrected. I am aware of the number of people
with relay problems but I feel I have triple checked all of the most common
problems.

Problem 2: (This is where I get upset)

Although I (and everyone else!) can successfully send mail out through SMTP,
any mail received is not processed. I have no public DNS name for the
machine so I do not attempt to test remote-to-local mail; however
local-to-local mail is failing regardless. Using echo to: myuser |
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject gets me nothing in the users Maildir. There is
nothing in the syslog, (though at an earlier time I had interesting
messages.) My name server is on the same machine and I can successfully
lookup my IP with my FQDN even if it is not publicly available yet.
Admittedly I had to use config-fast to setup the control files as the stand
config failed. A .qmail file in $HOME points to ./Maildir/ even though it
is the default for all. Relevant ps -x -a info is:

/usr/sbin/syslogd -m 60

tcpserver 0 smtp /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd \
  -v -x/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb -u1000 -g101 <<<snip>>>

/var/qmail/bin/splogger stmpd 3

qmail-lspawn cat /var/qmail/control/defaultdelivery

(qmail-start <zombie>)

qmail-clean

qmail-rspawn

qmail-send

Other Information:

- Slackware 3.6 installation; kernel 2.0.35 to 2.2.12
- Tried /users/assign for an existing linux account and used qmail-newu to
put it into cdb successfully. No Luck.
- The machine uses ipchains and ipmasqadm and acts as a gateway.
- Syslog was "exiting on signal 15" after new kernel. Seems to have
dissappeared now.
- Future plans for box is to be a pop server likely using vpopmail/vchkpw
- using daemontools-0.61
- Read FAQ, several HOWTOs, Usenet and INSTALL files (over and over again)

I nearly considered using smail after 3 days of this trouble and
unfortunately I am getting less and less time to spend on this problem. I
will refuse to give up so long as I receive suggestions from this list on
what to check next. Your suggestions are appreciated and eagerly awaited.

Slowly but surely I'm figuring out how to use qmail!

Latest problem is what to do about /bin/mail .

I'm running Linux Red Hat 6.0 and have just installed qmail 1.03 with mail
delivery to ~/Maildir using qmail-local for mail delivery.

I have 'removed' ( chmod 0 ) /bin/mail as per the 'REMOVE.binmail'
instructions but now, of course, I don't have a substitute whenever
something like the system attempts to execute /bin/mail .

What did I not do ?

Please respond to [EMAIL PROTECTED] in addition to the mailing list!

thanks !!

Michael Slade

I'll field this one guys. :-) (I just asked this about four days ago
Michael!)

You don't really need to chmod 0 /bin/mail. Many here have said that /bin/mail
works just fine with qmail, as it uses 'sendmail' and that has been substituted
with qmail's version (right?). I have created a symbolic link from /bin/mail
to /bin/mutt just because I got that suggestion first and it is working and if
it aint broke... haha

There was some issue to do with local distribution using /bin/mail but it
didn't effect me. So, my recommendation is, chmod 555 /bin/mail and simply try
it.

Good luck!

hey folks, I know this was discussed a couple of days ago but I need to

cnames aren't proper for virtual email addresses; you need an actual A
or MX record for them. (multiple A records pointing to the same IP
are perfectly legal).

Once the DNS is properly setup, then what you need is, as you've
figured out, virtual domains. The virtualdomains file goes in qmail's
control directory (which might be at the path you give, or other
paths, depending how you installed it). You also need to add those
domains to rcpthosts. You should *never* add a domain to both
virtualdomains and locals.

This is pretty well described in "Life With Qmail"
http://web.infoave.net/~dsill/lwq.html and in the qmail FAQ that comes
with the distribution. (Is this on the web somewhere, people? I
couldn't find it right off, anyway).

Which is fine when things are stable. However, when things go awry the
little files can get cycled too quickly.

/usr/local/bin/ezmlm/ezmlm-make
/home/vpopmail/domains/virt-domain/listname \
/home/vpopmail/domains/virt-domain/.qmail-listname listname virt-domain

That's the paths I use on my machine.

You might want to use qmailadmin web interface. It has a
button that creates a mailing list for a domain.

You should also upgrade to vpopmail 3.4.9. We fixed
alot of bugs that were in 3.4.8. See the change log
in the distribution tar ball.

but on vpopmail-3.4.6, compile imap-4.5.vchkpw.new.tar.gz is ok.

Any help to solve this problem would be very appreciated.

Hi all,

I am moving our Sendmail server to Qmail and am wondering how i would redo
the following mail-exploders.

This is what it looks like on sendmail

owner-bugtraq-list: postmaster
bugtraq-list-request: postmaster
bugtraq-list: "|/usr/lib/sendmail -oi -fbugtraq-list-request
bugtraq-list-outgoing"
bugtraq-list-outgoing: "subscribers mail addresses."

I need to know how to format the following line "|/usr/lib/sendmail -oi
-fbugtraq-list-request bugtraq-list-outgoing"

Thank You
