I have a question about MX records. Our users cannot email a certain domain, say foo.com, and when I looked the domain up, I noticed their entry for mail exchanger is an IP address rather than a host name. Now I've read somewhere earlier on the qmail list that this is not correct according to the DNS RFC. Could someone please confirm this, and also point me to the RFC in question? Now, the foo.com people says the problem is at _our_ end, and they use the IP address to reduce the load of the DNS server, just as you can do by browsing the web using IP numbers rather than host names. To be honest, this does strike me as a bit odd but then again if they are not violating any "rules" perhaps they are right? The problem is not that our server can't see their MX record, is just that what is there (IP number) is not what qmail expects to see (host name). What can I do at our end to sort this out? Any advice would be most apreciated. Cheers Fred ps. foo.com isn't the domain in question, names have been changed to protect the guilty :-)
