Check out the -/ option of qmail-pw2u, is quite close to what you want :)

yes, reading the the appropriate READMEs. In particular, the READMEs
do not say anything about the step

cp var-qmail-1.03-2-gnu-linux-i686.tar.gz /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/

Why are you doing these steps?

rpm -e exmh
rpm -e nmh
rpm -e mutt
rpm -e fetchmail

> I then editted /var/qmail/rc to read

/var/qmail/rc is not used by the rpm's setup.

My reason for this was that by default a rpm is built from source when
the
source.tar.gz file is located in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
So that when the .spec file is run to the .tar.gz file is located there
rpm -bb var-qmail.spec
builds the rpm and locates the newly created rpm in
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386

and
rpm -Uvh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/qmail-1.03-102memphis.i386.rpm
to install the created rpm

but, that is just my understanding of RPM.
I could be mildly/wildly mistaken

I guess, it is the "Envelope-From" that ist set to something that does
not exist and is different fom the "Header-From".
A solution would be, to change the behaviour of yout MUA.

Well, it can't be mydomain.com, because that exists:

mydomain.com A 216.34.89.70

So, I _assume_ that you're sending email with some other domain in
your envelope address, and that domain does not resolve properly.

I cant seem to find a faq or how-to that gives a clear idea on this so I ask

running a Qmail 1.3 on a FreeBSD machine.
Changing Internet providers and their for IP's

How do I tell Qmail about the changer or do I need to at all. Just changing
the IP for BSD will do ??

Thank you in advance for any help provided.

qmail just binds to the IP interfaces, so changing the IP shouldn't be
an issue.

However, if you are using tcpserver (for, say, qmail-smtpd), and
you've specified the host variable (usually 0, for bind-to-all),
you'll need to change that. See the manpage for tcpserver.

Hi,

I'm stuck on a problem with qmail. I have installed qmail 1.03 on a RedHat
6.1 system.
I have configured pop and have defined one user. I use Maildir and tcpserver
( not inet.d ). When I try to send a mail to this new user from an other
mail server the mail reaches the server and an error appears in the maillog
saying that "Not_allowed_to_perform_deliveries_as_root". The user is able to
send mails from the system.

I have searched the archives and read the instalation docs. Obviously I have
missed something and is hoping that someone of you out there can give me a
few hints to track this down.

qmail-lspawn detects that it would start a qmail-local process with uid 0.
It strongly dislikes that.

this usually means that either qmail-getpw returned a zero user id,
or users/cdb contains a zero uid.

Hi,

That hint you gave me made my day!!!!
I only had one user in users/cdb, with a uid/gid of 500/500. I deleted the
assign file and
deleted the user. Then I added a new user with a uid/gid of 509/509 and
created a new users/assign file with this new entry and created the cdb file
and now it works.
Either it was a problem with the uid/gid 500/500 or there was some garbage
characters in the assign file.

Thank's,
Lars-ke Torlind

Not easy. DUL is a modification to resolving IP-addressen, and you cannot
change resolving depending on having a good key.

You can make some sort of hack via smtp-after-pop and a smart relay, but
then again, dial-up users can allready relay via the smtp-server from their
dial-up provider, and thus don't need extra authentication.

If I understand your question correctly, the answer is no. There is no
established standard by which an SMTP server can digitally authenticate
its trustworthiness.

That's rather unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

How many startup programs for Qmail can be mentioned in .qmail?

The dot-qmail docs give examples for each seperate instance of the program in use but
not a combination of the programs. Are there any .qmail file examples with calls to
several
dot-qmail programs?

Here's one. The first eliminates duplicate messages. The second
stops mail from a mailing list from which even I couldn't get
unsubscribed. The third redirects some email to another mailbox. The
fourth plays a bell sound when I get mail, and the third removes MIME
the text/html part from a multipart/alternative message.

Hi

I'm a bit confused about the mechanics of rcpthosts.

If I put an entry in rcpthosts like

     example.com.au

That will let me accept E-mail for [EMAIL PROTECTED] That much I know...
will it allow me to accept E-mail for mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

In much the same vein if I have a rcpthosts file like

     .example.com.au

I can then accept E-mail for [EMAIL PROTECTED] But can
I
accept E-mail for [EMAIL PROTECTED] ???

I'm looking for the best way to accept E-mail for a domain and any
subdomains and hosts in that domain/subdomain. At the moment I list both
example.com.au and .example.com.au in rcpthosts but there has to be a better
way.

Thanks in advance,
Gavin

The way you're doing it, with two entries, is correct. There isn't a
'better way' with standard qmail.

A bit of advice on how other sytems handle bounces....

I get anywhere from 500 to 1K bounces a day on a qmail 1.03 RH 5.2
mailserver.

What's the best way to handle them? I would rather cut them off at the
initial connection if at all possible.

Anyone have a good reference or plan for handeling bounces???

Thanks.

qmail-smtpd does NOT reject any mail during the SMTP dialogue because it
deosn't check the validity of the local address. This is by design. If
you like, you could look at the qmail-uce patches, but these are not
going to be maintained by the author. If rejecting bounces at SMTP time
is important to you, you may have to consider switching away from qmail.

Hi,

I have set up a qmail server with Vpopmail. I need to migrate my other qmail accounts to this machine with virtual domains.

For example :

My main qmail server domain name is : abc.com.sg (But already there is one running under postoffice called abc.com.sg - I tried sending mails to a new account created in qmail which is not there in my postoffice and tried sending it but it failed, but when i send it with a hostname+domain name then it goes through successfully.)
What could be the problem ?

My other domain names are as follows : def.com.sg, ghi.com.sg, xyz.com.sg (all different domain names)

I have created  a virtual domain using qmailadmin. But already there are mail servers running under this domain name. But now I need to migrate these accounts to this new mail server from my old qmail and postoffice mail server and check whether these accounts are working properly.

Could anyone let me know regarding this.

Thanks as its urgent

Regards
John

I thought that configuring the /var/qmail/control/defaultdelivery file
and /var/qmail/rc files was all you needed for the maildir format.
However, as I was not getting tmp, cur and new directories created
I rechecked the Life with Qmail documentation again to find out that
I may need the .qmail file! Is this true??

Do I need a .qmail file to configure the maildir format. If so, how do I
configure it. Please let me know.

Thankyou in advance,
Kristina
