What's so wierd about it exactly? It's saying that it cannot cd into a
directory called Maildir.
My guess is that it cannot cd into that directory because it doesn't exist or
the permissions are wrong.

My guess is that you should create a Maildir (preferably using maildirmake) in
~alias, but knowing what is in ~alias/.qmail-root would be instructive.
