qpopper and ~username/Mailbox format

I want to use qpopper2.53 to work with mail in the ~/Mailbox format.
At the moment qpopper2.53 will not get mail in ~/username/Mailbox.

What changes do I need to do to qpopper to get it to work?

Any hints appreciated,
