Hi ALL<

I have a problem in that my tcp.smtp.cdb file is not being used - as
when I try and relay through my server it seems to ignore the .cdb
file??

My setup of the tcp.smtp file is as follows:

192.168.2.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""
192.168.1.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""
:allow

which is then converted into the cdb file by tcprules..

I have tcpserver runnign with the following line:

tcpserver -R -H -t5 -v -x /etc/tcp.smtp.cdb ....etc

i have also tried it with :

tcpserver -R -H -t5 -v -x/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb ...etc

Can anyone please expalein why it is not working?

I have ucspi-tcp-0.88 installed?

Thanks-----

I missed the original message, but this will not just prevent relaying;
it will prevent anyone outside those two private subnets from sending mail
to local recipients on this server as well.

i had even to disable the -x option altogether, because i could not get
this feature to work. and yes, i have the current version installed,
checked the permissions, tried with and without a 127/localhost entry...

i followed all the instructions in the life with qmail by Dave Sill. then
change only the rc file like this

# Bunch of comments here
exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \
qmail-start './Maildir/' splogger qmail

then when i tried to test it i got the problem cannot find the mails
althoug the delivery was successful in my qmail logs.

sorry again for my ignorance coz im new in qmail just really need it badly.

thank you!

Hello,
I have one Qmail Server with a few of domains (I use vpopmail).
This server has got one Internal IP Address (192.168.0.x), and another Linux
Server (with one internal IP address and one external IP address) use the
portfw sentence for redirect the email traffic.
The Qmail Server also has an invented name and domain that now only works in
"internal mode" (with an Internal IP address 192.168.0.x).

I must change this configuration.
I need to change the IP address for one real IP address, and the name and
domain name for another real name and domain.

I must change the IP with ifconfig and the name in the file (/etc/hostname).

What is the file for change the domain?

How other files should I change (Qmail files, vpopmail files, etc)?

Thanks for all.

Hi,

One of the possible ways that works fine for me is to set up user quota on
the appropriate partition. For more on quota see the Quota mini-HOWTO.

Hi,

Try man qmail-log. It will answer at least some of your questions, if not
all of them.

Your qmail config is fine. The username isn't being added to the machine name;
it's just reporting the whole email address in the error message. The problem
is that dencar.powerup.com.au is not in the DNS.

Put powerup.com.au in /var/qmail/control/defaulthost as well as
defaultdomain.

Try putting stuff into /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-msglog ... (or wherever
that file is...)

Yes, but for not wasting Dan's time, I wanted to ask this list to overlook
the packages. There are READMEs to the packages, I put in
ftp://ftp.innominate.org/pub/pape/Debian/unofficial/ . They explain how I
did follow http://cr.yp.to/qmail/var-qmail.html , respecting
http://cr.yp.to/qmail/dist.html .

Once Dan J. Bernstein wrote:
>The movement of binaries is unacceptable. I don't care where they're

that's why I put the binaries in /usr/{bin,sbin}/ and link into
/var/qmail/bin/.

If there is interest in having qmail in the debian-distribution, perhaps I
get Dan J. Bernstein's approval sometime.
Getting the packages into debian is the easier part, I think, that is what
lintian reports as errors by now:

Hi
I'm new in list.
That's the problem: i want all my users (over 150 000) in nt (mailsite) to
linux. i'm using qmail with (imap-maildirs).
And in mailsite the webmail program check the users and passwords from
oracle database.

Now how can i do this pass checking on linux with oracle and which web
interface program should i use?

Can i use sqwebmail with oracle and if i can how and is the 0.x version is
reliable for a large isp?

Thanks for help

Hi,

Please help me out, I still counldn't find out what the problem
is.
I got the following error. I am following the installation manual
from Life with
qmail.

After I create my user and group for qmail, then I type in "make setup
check" on the command line. I got the following error messages.

./ compile sig_alarm.c
In file included from /usr/include/signal.h:300, from sig_alarm.c:1:
/usr/include/bits/sigcontext.h:28: asm/sigcontext.h:
No such file or directory
make:***[sig_alarm.0] ERROR 1

I have checked that I have the file called "sigcontext.h" in my
/usr/include/bits directory, what is the problem i am having. Oh..Can
qmail run under redhat 6.2!! Could this be the problem.!!

Thank you for your help,

Mark

qmail will run just fine under Redhat 6.x.

The problem isn't with the /usr/include/bits/sigcontext.h file, it's with a
file (asm/sigcontext.h) included from that file. Usually this means that you
haven't properly installed the kernel header files. If you really think you
have, go into /usr/src/linux/include. There should be a link from asm-ARCH
(probably asm-i386) to asm. If there isn't one there, put it there (ln -s
asm-i386 asm).

Hi Peter,

Thank you so much, now the problem is fixed. But there is a new problem
arised. that is :

./compile error.c
In file include from /usr/include/error.h:36,
  from error.c:1:
/usr/include/bits/errrno.h:25/
linux/errno.h:
No such file or directory
 make:***[error.0] ERROR 1

Actually, what mistake did I make, I don't experienced this kind of problem when
I was using redhat linux 6.0 but I got so much problem in rehat linux 6.2.

thank you for so much for your help

There are other links that need to be there. Make sure:

/usr/include/linux points to /usr/src/linux/include/linux

Hello,
I've set up a qmail server following the directions
in LWQ.
Everything works fine, except right after a reboot.
qmail refuses
connections with the message:

451 qq temporary problem (#4.3.0)

The funny thing is, if I stop and restart qmail,
everything works
absolutely fine. I don't have to reboot very often,
but if I ever had to,
it'd be nice to know that it would come up correctly
without a
restart of qmail. I even tried stopping and starting
it from
/etc/rc.d/rc.local after it has come up from the
normal startup
script, and that still doesn't fix the problem.

A little info about my system:

-P75 w/24MB
-Red Hat 6.1
-I've tried 2.2.12 stock Red Hat, 2.2.15 vanilla
w/openwall patch,
and and 2.2.16 vanilla w/openwall patch. It happens
with all
kernels.

qmail info:
--------------
-qmail-1.03
-applied large MX record patch
-applied qmail-queue patch
-installed qmail-qfilter
-I am currently using 2 perl scripts for filters, the
default "deny-
filetypes" filter that comes with qmail-qfilter, and
one I wrote myself
for filtering by the From line. They both work great
from the
command line and return 0 for the return code. The
even work fine
after I restart qmail.

One more thing, I just tried disabling the QMAILQUEUE
by
removing the entry in /etc/tcp.smtp (and reloading
tcp.smtp.cdb).
It works fine after I do that, even without restarting
q-mail. If I put
the QMAILQUEUE entry back in, it will stop working
again.

I realize this has to be something to do with either
the
QMAILQUEUE patch (doubtful), my perl script (more
likely), or
something I've done with the system when I was locking
it down ( I
started by applying the Bastille hardening script).
What I find really
strange is that it all works fine after restarting
qmail. I've checked
that startup logs for errors, and I can't find any.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Any suggestions?
This is just
one of those things that I'd like to know why it's
happening. I have
a work around, so it's not holding anything up.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,
Steve

P.S. Please let me know if I can provide more
information for you.

If you have installed your start-up scripts from LWQ
try increasing the softlimit value.

I have found that running perl from qmail-qfilter will
cause this error.

Yes, I did run into that problem. I increased the
limit and qmail started working fine, until I rebooted
the machine (accidentally hit the power switch :-)
It's odd that qmail will work after I restart it
manually. The only difference between it starting
during the bootup scripts, and when I start it
manually, is that it's tied to a terminal when I start
it manually. I'm not sure if that has anything to do
with it though.

Thank you,
Steve

Sure, just make your local domain a virtual domain. Remove it from
control/locals (locals can be empty), add an entry to
control/virtualdomains, set up the appropiate .qmail files, and
restart qmail.

To block some extension of the attached files, I did use the script
/usr/sbin/scanmails generated by amavis; I modified the code to obtain
an effect similar to a virus detection but with a different message. The
script drops all attached files and the reply is a plain text with no
problems for users with the same rules.
Is someone knowing a way this script should not work?
tank you.
P.S. if you want the modifed script just let me know.

Can someone tell me if anything is either missing or shouldn't be there?

I'm reading through D.J.'s faq and I'm at part 9.1 about running qmail-smtpd under
tcpserver.
I installed the ucspi-tcp 0.88 package.
This is what I see in my inetd.conf file :
# do not uncomment smtp unless you *really* know what you are doing.
# smtp is handled by the sendmail daemon now, not smtpd. It does NOT
# run from here, it is started at boot time from /etc/rc.d/rc#.d.
#smtp stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/smtpd smtpd
#nntp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.nntpd
Do I remove these lines?
..continuing...Remove the smtp line from /etc/inetd.conf, and put the two lines
 tcpserver -v -u 7770 -g 2108 0 smtp /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd \
     2>&1 | /var/qmail/bin/splogger smtpd 3 &
into your system boot scripts; replace 7770 with your qmaild uid, and replace 2108
with your nofiles gid.

I know I want to use multilog instead of splogger. Should I replace the splogger part
of the script
with multilog? And if so, please tell me what to put.
Your help is appreciated,

Hi all,

I'm using Erwin Hoffmann spamcontrol patch and now I'm trying to bloc
addresses without @ without bloquing void addresses (mail from: <>)
which are used in bounce mails and can't be bloqued.
I've tried to put
*
!*@*
in the badmailpatterns but it blocs void addresses. Is there a way to
bloc addresses without @ without bloc bounce addresses?

I think it would be nice to add to the spamcontrol patch the Ricardo
Cerqueira maxrcpt patch or Chris Johnson tarpit patch to reduce the risk
of insiders doing spam (in big servers you can't trust all the users and
unlimited rcpt is a risk).

Hello one and all :)

I have a coworker that attempted to install QMAIL on a production machine.
Per Murphy's law
The installation failed and took with it sendmail.

Now, sendmail is storing all incoming messages in qmail, all are empty
files, and for every one
Of them a new child is forked. These children are then waiting indefinitely
for something.

When doing a "mailq" a lsit of files is displayed, every one of them having
the annotation:
NO CONTROL FILE.

Can anyone shed some light here? What did QMAIL to provoke this behavior?

TIA,
Alex

I have checked the link, it's there, asm->asm-i386.
What is the possibility of other problems.

Well, SOME link isn't there. The following need to be set up:

* /usr/src/linux needs to contain, at a minimum the kernel headers in
  /usr/src/linux/include
* /usr/src/linux/include/asm needs to point to .../asm-i386 (got that)
* /usr/include/asm needs to point to /usr/src/linux/include/asm

The easiest way to check if this is the case:

  ls -ld /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 /usr/src/linux/include/asm
/usr/src/linux/include /usr/include/asm

Send the output of that command.

Isn't qpopper for pop, not smtp? Why would the rcpthosts file affect it
then? In any case, an RCPTHOSTS file error can mean either what it says
(the site ISN'T in the file) or it could mean if your blocking based on IP
addresses that whatever your tcprules.cdb file is isn't setup right. Make
sure you have your domain in there, and that RELAYCLIENT is set and :allow
is set.

and still get the error that it's not in the rcpthosts file...

Hi everyone... I have the following problem:
The mail server respondend:
sorry that domain isn't in my list of allowed
rcpthosts...

In my mail client I am using ns.villasana.com.mx as my
smtp server and
in my rctp hosts I have:
scorpio.com.mx
villasana.com.mx
ns.villasana.com.mx

I am using qmail 1.03 + vpopmail-3.4.11-2 in a RH6.2
Linux
Where should I look?

Thanks

Ok... I forgot to mention it was working fine... but I resarted my
computer and it started doing this...
I am starting qmail-smtpd with:

tcpserver -v -c40 -x /etc/tcprules.d/qmail-smtpd.cdb -u$USERID
-g$GROUPID 0 smtp qmail-smtpd \
2>&1| setuser $LOGUSER accustamp \
| setuser $LOGUSER cyclog $FILESIZE $FILENO $LOGDIR &

in /etc/tcprules.d/qmail-smtpd I have:
more qmail-smtpd
127.0.0.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""
200.33.117.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""
ns.villasana.com.mx:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""
correo.villasana.com.mx:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""
pop3.villasana.com.mx:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""
mail.villasana.com.mx:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""
smtp.villasana.com.mx:allow,RELAYCLIENT=""

please advice...

I am using qmail-1.03 vpopmail-11.2 and RH 6.2

What happens when you telnet to the machine on port 110, or whatever your
pop3 port is? telnet there, type give a valide username and password, and
list the mail. Try to retr it. See what happens. Send us the output.

Dear all
I used qmail-pop3d with Maildir and tcpserver, I have tcpserver look like :
tcpserver -v 0 pop-3 /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup sdn.vn \
/bin/checkpassword /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir &

-But when i use MUA (netscape) to get messages, entering password, after
that netscape said that :
"An error occurred with the pop3 server, please contact the admin...."
Could you give some ideas and how to config netscape MUA to use with Maildir
and qmail-pop3d
Thanks

postmaster the same...

Hi,

I was able to reproduce the given problem:
telnet myhost 25
mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
rcpt <>
data
Something
.
quit

Qmail took it. Produced similar logs. But the message never showed up.
I am able to receive all the mail necessary (bounces, doublebounces, usual mail, ...)
But
I'm not able to read this mail so far.

You didn't stop sendmail from running, somewhere on your system.

/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail stop
rpm -e sendmail --nodeps

YMMV,

Eh, that's it, I guess. No 300 million dollar unveiling event for this

Ok, the /var/log/qmail permissions weren't the problem
/var/qmail/supervise and all in it need to be owned by qmaill as well ;)

Did you send qmail-send a SIGHUP after you added the domains to locals?

If that wasn't the problem, would you tell us what the real domain names are
and post an actual bounce message that you received?

Isn't the current one /var/log/qmail/current or /var/log/qmail/smtpd/current, depending
what you need?

Sorry I cannot access the LWQ at the moment and I'm not sure wether I changed it
slightly.
But maybe the direction helps.
The older ones are the ones with the @ in front of the filename.

Ciao,

Cyril

Is there any way of making the environment variables set by tcpserver
available while the file is being delivered? Specifically, I would like
TCPREMOTEIP available while filtering with maildrop.

Gracias,
Ben

Hello,
Could someone who is running a supervised version of you qmail give me the

multilog: fatal: unable to switch to current directory: access denied

Initially I thought is was a problem with /var/log/qmail but that is not
the case. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

could you tell me if there is any need to have a valid reverse lookup for your
mailserver.
Either based on a RFC or common practice.

Thanks,

Cyril

If that server is going to be connecting to other mail servers and
sending them mail, common practice requires a PTR record, and an A or
CNAME record for that name that refers to the same IP address. Many
mail servers will refuse to accept your mail otherwise.

Hello all,

What is the best route for handling multiple domains and associated things
like mail delivery / pop3 user logins over 1 ip address?

Probably either vpopmail (<http://www.inter7.com/vpopmail/>) or vmailmgr

Hi-

I have qmail set up on a server with multiple virtual domains. I am
puzzled by, and want to remove, extraneous header entries that end up
in incoming mail for accounts on the virtual domains.

Specifically, there are various "Delivered-To:" entries that reveal
the primary domain name. If I am virtually hosting foo.com on my
server which is primarily bar.com, I do do not want foo.com's
incoming email to reveal this in its header.

Is there a simple way to configure this in qmail, or am I forced to
write scripts to process incoming messages?

Thanks!

I've got two qmail servers running inside a load balancer. They both access
the same /var/mail/username/Maildir directories on an NFS server. They also
share many of the same configuration files in /var/qmail/control on the NFS
server. The files they share are local symbolic links to the shared volume
on the NFS server. A few hours after bringing up the second qmail server,
the first one, which had been running fine for two weeks, quit working. The
errors I am getting in the syslog file on the failing server are
"Can't_connect_to_SMTP_server" and "Can't_chdir_to_Maidir". Anyone have any
success with this configuration or have any idea what could be causing the
first server to loose its way?

Running qmail and NFS on Solaris 2.7 (first server and NFS server) and 2.8
(second qmail server). The first server (the one failing) responds to
connections on port 25 but can't send or deliver and is not spawning any
qmail processes. The second server is now doing all the work.

Thanks,

Mike

you might consider using rsync to sync your conffiles, instead of
sharing them over nfs. this would eliminate alot of problems
and latency i'd think.

Subject: Mail queueing in relay host.

Dear Qmail admins,

We have two computers with one acting as a relay
host(abc.valid.net connected to the internet) and the other, on the local
network(xyz.local.net), for storing mails. abc.valid.net is just for
forwarding mails to and from the local mail machine(xyz.local.net). The
problem I face is that if the internet link is down then the mails sent
bounces back immediately and does not queue up in the abc.valid.net.

I have setup the control/smtproutes file which has the following
entry:

:[ip address of the ISP MX]

Should I setup something else?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I finally installed qmail, thank you for anybody's help in this mailing list.  The purpose to setup my qmail sever is to use with my web site/web server.  I need to vertify that the e-mail address is correct.  So that I require people to give me their e-mail adress, then I will send out the password to them (using qmail).  Then, later they can come back and log-on.
Now, my problem is related to relaying .  I have read "The qmail newbie's quide to relaying" which comes with life with qmail as a URL.  It states that "qmail's rcpthosts file, which gets its name from the RCPT TO command, determines whether the recipient will be accepted; it will be accepted if and only if the domain of the address given in the RCPT TO command is listed in rcpthosts."

Now, the RCPT TO means send out the messages to a particular address.  Is this correct?? If yes, then when people come and ask for password by giving their e-mail address.  I need to send them a password via the form of e-mail. In other words,  I need to send them a password according to what they put in.  So, in this situations, I need to put their domain in my rcphosts file before sending them a password.  Is this correct ?? if yes, how to overcome this problem??  Any suggestion is helpful.!!!

Thank you

Mark
