remote smtp access

Hey All,   I am trying to set up remote mail server for company users.   I got the pop3 stuff working fine, I can download mail from an outside line, but I can't send any remote mail when connected remotely, only local mail.   I've tested the server as an open relay and I thought that anyone should be able to login to their mail account from anywhere and get and send any mail.   Any Ideas?   I didn't include any config info because I didn't know what would be relevant.   Thanks, -=Andy
