hi,
yes, it works with virtual domains (i had this running)
yes, you can put just any domain into ~/control/relaymailfrom
no, it is not save. i experienced havy troubles with orbs. their checker does in fact
try to send mails with sender
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. if that goes through (and it does with relaymailfrom) your
mailserver is classified as openrelay and
remains on the list. i had to switch back to tcp-rules.

I get mail via uucp. The "From " header looks like:
From somplace.com!someone ...
and qmail adds the domain:
From [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and then adds a:
Return-Path: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
header. But qmail can not bounce mail to that address.
Is there a work around for this?
Where is the initial "From " header coming from? It's not coming from
uucp: uucp does not change the contents of the mail message at all.

hello Mark.
Ive been using outlook2000 and so do all my customers.. some use outlook
express, but NONE use eudora or netscape.
im "happy" to say, that we didnt encounter any problems sending or recieving
mail with them, other that the fact it gets sent to damn fast... :-)
im sorry for your problems, but it seems interesting that for me it works..
im sure others are also using micro$oft products and its working for them
aswell...
have you tried telneting to your server and manually enter the commands?
if this works, its defenetly something in your outlook config files... try a
new account, on a fresh install of outlook...
This realy should work...

I love to blame Microsoft for this problem as well. It just seems funny
that it is now happening to more than one person in the company. All of a
sudden, it's most of the people. This is why I am starting to wonder if
it's my QMAIL system not accepting the mail for delivery all the time.
What are other people using for EMAil on Win9x systems? Anything else
except Netscape?

I am using Outlook 2000 from my home into the office QMail server. Have not
had a problem with the No Transport Provider Available. The only time that
I can get it to occur is at the office. I still tend to believe that it's
Outlook causing the problem. Strange that 3-6 users are now experiencing
the same trouble at the same time. Which makes me think that it may be my
config, Network Cards in my linux server, Internal wiring in the building or
QMAIl itself acting up.

MAILER-DAEMON (612) 321-9290 x101
Bitstream Underground www.bitstream.net
OK, I know the "Network Failure System" is a bad thing to begin
with, but at work I have no choice but to use qmail with NFS.
Here's the scenario and then I'll get to the annoyance (yes, just
one, for now) I ran into. (All of this is happening on a GNU/Linux
platform).
We have a master file server where everyone's home dirs live. This
server, "bigbird", allows local machines to mount the home dirs as
needed (NFS clients are using autofs tricks to mount the NFS
shares). There is an MX box called "mail" which delivers mail to
the users' home dirs (in Maildir format) on bigbird via NFS.
"mail" also runs qmail-pop3d.
When initially setting this all up and testing it, there was about a
minute delay between sending mail and being able to retrieve it
pop3. After some careful inspection I noticed that the mail
messages in ~/Maildir/new/ had modification times about a minute in
the future relative to the time on the "mail" machine (again,
~/Maildir/new/ resides on "bigbird" and is spoken to by "mail" via
NFS). "bigbird"'s clock was about a minute faster than "mail"'s.
I'm curious as to how qmail-pop3d looks at messsages in
~/Maildir/new/, why it seems to ignore "messages from the future"
and why it seems to care about the modification time in the first
place. Messages in ~/Maildir/new/ are, um.. new? right?
Regardless of when they were created?
I'm rather new to NFS and I'm not fond of it but it has to hang
around. A short term solution has been to set bigbird's clock back
a little bit, at least realtive to the mail box's clock. Long term
solution will likely be to run NTP.
Any other non-disparaging thoughts on this issue will be
appreciated. ;-)
Regards,
kw

It's these lines in maildir.c that are causing the problem:
if (st.st_mtime < time) /* don't want to mix up the order */
{
pe.dt = st.st_mtime;
pe.id = pos;
if (!prioq_insert(pq,&pe)) break;
}
This code basically says: insert message into prioq (maildir-list) if
it was created before 'now'. I don't know why djb did it this way, but
your host should be ntpsynced *anyway* if you want to run any kind of
reliable service.

If you're using tcpserver, put something like this in your rules file:
192.168.100.:allow,TCPREMOTEHOST="",TCPREMOTEIP="",RELAYCLIENT=""

The man page says that forward is a wrapper around qmail-queue.
Doesn't that mean the message makes two complete trips into and
out of the queue, while the method I described is handled
completely within qmail-local?
Granted I haven't looked at the source yet, but what have I
missed?
