Hi,

Yes, this machine is new (disk upgrade)! And my problem wasn't the
number of users or the number of emails/day. My problem begins with AMaViS
0.2.1 the shell script keep forking more and more utilities (grep, fgrep,
cat, uvscan, tar, etc), and on some times there are up to 300 processes
running! (my concurrentremote are set to 120).

This isn't the place to start another flame war between Linux and
FreeBSD, but my server has the MySQL DB, QMail (with Courier-IMAP) and
Apache (to run IMP). Now with AMaViS Perl all is running fine again, and I
can handle much more than 6K users on this computer!

                                                                Antonio.

The stock checkpassword-0.81 doesn't support anything other than system
users--a poppasswd file means nothing to it.

For a checkpassword that does support a poppasswd file, try
http://www.palomine.net/qmail/checkcdb.tar.gz (or check www.qmail.org. There
are others).

Chris

Oh,

this does make sense. That was my fear from the beginning. The only
question is the order of installation. Does it matter that I already have
the checkpassword-0.81 installed??
I downloaded also cdb-5.5 since the checkcdb README was refering to it or
should I use version cdb-7.5.???

I am adding also the line from inetd.conf file for verification.
pop3 stream tcp nowait root /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup qmail-popup
test.com /bin/checkpassword /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir

Thanks Peter

Hi,

I have just install qmail + vmailmgr and courier-imap. I have followed the how-to document, and haven't had any problems here, but when I reboot my machine all qmail service report the error: "svscan is not running".

How can I fix this. I use RH 6.2

TIA,

Jeff Jensen

At my first look, this is not problem with your qmail, but with Yahoo. I
have noticed, that even 1k message takes hours to get delivered to yahoo
sometimes.

Is this happening with mail to other domains?

Milen

I have an issue in that I have Remote users that need to use my E-Smith Mail
server and I have toyed with the idea of opening up the box for RELAY but
have been firmly told not to even consider this. My next option has been
Webmail which I now have working but the last hurdle is getting the remote
users to login and be able to send.
Remote users = users not local to my LAN
External Source = external e-mail address other than on my LAN.

So I can use my browser to login and view my mail. Then I can send a message
to any user that has been created on that server and is therefore a local
user on the LAN. BUT if I try to send a mail to a user that is not a user
that has been created on the local server i.e. to the 'your' being you the
readers mail address it does not go. Kind of like it is not allowing RELAY
although I am under the impression that RELAY is not an issue here. What do
I need to change in the qmail config to get this to work?

Any Help Please.

I have just installed the following packages for qmail virus scanning.

         * maildrop (MIME Handlers)
         * tnef
         * amavis

I had the following ten processes running before I installed it.

supervise qmail-send
supervise qmail-smtpd
/usr/local/bin/multilog t s2500000 /var/log/qmail/qmail-send
/usr/local/bin/multilog t s2500000 /var/log/qmail/qmail-smtpd
/usr/local/bin/tcpserver -v -p -/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb -u 531 -g 1001 0 smtp
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd
qmail-send
splogger qmail
qmail-lspawn ./Mailbox
qmail-rspawn
qmail-clean

But only three are left after that

/usr/local/bin/multilog t s2500000 /var/log/qmail/qmail-send
  /usr/local/bin/multilog t s2500000 /var/log/qmail/qmail-smtpd
  qmail-clean

I even tried to reinstalled from source again but it is not coming back. I
can send/receive mail without any problem but does anyone see this problem
before?

Thanks in advance.

Alan
