THE FACT: I have many clients con NetscapeMessenger like MUA and one
server with QMail with IMAP Server
TARGET: I want establish a secure connection (with SSL?) from MUAs and
MTA (through IMAP protocol )
QUESTIONs:
a) Must I install SSL server-side ?
b) Is SSL code included in Netscape package (v4.72) ???
c) where can I look for the instrucions (step-by-step) for
installing SSL for IMAP (certficate creation, ect. ) ???

You can get a copy of openssl from openssl.org. You need to install this
serverside. You will find that it is a fairly painless install. There are
several IMAP servers out there. Inter7 has links to Courier I think and
there are links on the qmail page.

Hi,
Thank you very much Charles!
I did post a log from the failed session made with
recordio. One can see that the remote site seize
transmition after issuing: "DATA?" and my site responds
with:"354 go ahead?". My site does not receive anything
else and qmail-smtp timeouts. For example see session with
pid 2826. I am posting the session log as attachment as
well, because my web based client eats the "" signs.
If the problems is in the remote site violeting the "\r\n",
what can I do. Is there a fix????

This could be an issue with SMTP line endings -- the
particular remote sites
which are having problems sending to you may be violating
the spec by
not sending rn, particularly at the end of the DATA phase.
Use recordio with qmail-smtpd to record an example of the
faulty session.
If the resulting log doesn't mean anything to you, post it
here.
See djb's site and www.qmail.org for info on how to set up
and use recordio.

It's not nearly that bad in practice. Thanks to the magic of demand
paging, most of that space (uninitialized .bss, recall) is never touched,
never paged in or out. Making the response array that size will probably
cause one extra page to be resident (it does on Solaris 7, measured with
pmap -x).
the program delivery lines in my dot-qmail files are beginning to get

is there a way to continue a line on the next line in order to keep an

How about making a separate shell script and simply put a
|yourscript.sh
in the .qmail file?

Version 0.97 of oMail-admin is now available at
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3658
Official homepage and documentation of the omail-admin project
can be seen under http://omail.omnis.ch and most of the
urls are listed on http://admin.omnis.ch/admin2/?A=about
---------------------------------------------------------------
oMail-admin is a PHP-based Web frontend to qmail and
vmailmgrd. It can be used by domain owners and single users
to easily administer their mail accounts without bothering
the sysadmin.
Its features include mailbox/alias management,
auto-responder (vacation-like) support, support for changing
passwords, and translations for the French, English, Swedish,
Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Danish,
Romana, Czech, Nederlands and German languages.
---------------------------------------------------------------
I'd like to thank everybody who sent me patches, bugfixes
and good ideas since last version. And also a special thanks
to the ones who have looked at the README, and already used
the http:[EMAIL PROTECTED] page :)))
Major Changes since last release in sept. 2000 (0.95) :
* 100% HTML template-based
* vmailmgrd-tcp support with 3 different host selection methods
* ldap support (not qmail-ldap, don't dream :)
* five or six new translations
* better documentation
* lots of bugfixes
* display of N accounts per page or per start letter
* user friendly catchall account support
Next Steps:
- display mailbox size : unread mails, saved mails
(waiting for changes in vmailmgrd: looking for help!)
- add help screen / buttons
- analyse error/ok message, and give a translated version
- and add lots of new translations :)
Comments, bugfixes, translations & feature requests welcome!
(on the mailing list if possible, thanks!)
Salutations,
Olivier

Hello,
I'm running a fetchmail/procmail/qmail combo on my single-user
workstation, a Red Hat 6.2 machine, which is behind an IP-masquerading
firewall. Fetchmail grabs mail from a POP3 account at my ISP
(@Home.com), and qmail sends mail out the same way. Nothing fancy.
I can send and receive mail fine using my MUA (mutt), but when I type
'mail root' at the command line, the maillog reveals that qmail is
trying to send the message to remote [EMAIL PROTECTED] and so I'm
getting a host-unknown error from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Looking at the
control files, I can see why. I have no defaulthost or defaultdomain
files, so it's using the value of 'me' (which is 'deckard') for both of
these.
What I would like is for the message to go to the local root account in
this situation. But what values can I use for defaulthost and
defaultdomain that will achieve this? I've tried using 'localhost' for
defaulthost, but then qmail tries sending this message to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]; it's tacking on me in place of defaultdomain.
Thanks for any help,
--Chris
It seems strange that qmail wouldn't deliver to localhost, but if that's
true then what effect should modifying ~alias files have?
I've tried setting the values of .qmail-root, .qmail-postmaster and
.qmail-mailer-daemon to "root" and "&chris", neither of which settings
seemed to make any difference.
The reason I'm pursuing this is that there is at least one system
utility (ntpdate called from a cron job) that periodically mails status
reports to root, and they're currently dissappearing into the ether.
Thanks,
--Chris

Say what?

"root" won't work, since qmail-local will never run as root; that's the reason
you have to create ~alias/.qmail-root, so that mail sent to root can be
delivered. But &chris should work, assuming mail to chris is deliverable.

No they're not. There will be some trace in the logs.
What's in control/locals?

Yes, sorry. There is a trace of them in the logs. It's just that the
messages themselves aren't actually getting delivered anywhere.

deckard
localhost
.home.com
--Chris
Hmm. This doesn't seem to be the root of the issue. When I type 'mail
chris' at the command line to write myself a message, qmail does the
same thing as when I try to mail root: It attempts to send it to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] This has nothing to do with aliases. What I
would expect is that sending mail like this to users with no host name
specified, qmail should attempt to deliver to said user locally, if
possible. Is there a way to make this happen?
Thanks,

They didn't. qmail only logs the FROM the first time it sees a
message. Scan back from above lines to find 'new msg 200626' and then
find 'info msg 200626'.
Greetz, Peter.
It is likely a problem with the email services, and not your machine. I have
heard of numerous delay and lost message problems with these services. You
can also look at the complete mail headers to see how many hops it took to
get to your server and how long. According to SMTP every server that touches
a piece of mail must add its identity and a timestamp as it passes it along.
By tracing it along you will probably find where the delay is occurring.

A little unfair Dave.
Installing BIND over djbdns may not be an issue of which is "best".
Maintaince is also an issue. If the person whom will be looking after
the setup "knows" bjdbns then I would install that - otherwise if they
knew BIND then I would use that.
Obviously the above is an opinion, and some may disagree, but I am only
trying to point out that the decision may not be so cut as dry, and
hence the consultant my not be so clueless :-)
Oh, agreed that BIND can be a nightmare !

There are no such command.

It doesn't work.

I have seen the /var/qmail/rc , I still don't know how to stop it. It says:
#!/bin/sh
# Using splogger to send the log through syslog.
# Using qmail-local to deliver messages to ~/Mailbox by default.
exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \
qmail-start ./Maildir/ splogger qmail

In that case, send SIGTERM to the qmail-send process.
Dear Alex Pennace

I have tried to do so. But can you tell me where I can find PID of qmail-send process?

I have an IMAPD Server (WU-IMAPD) on QMAIL.
I must establish a secure (with SSL) connection between MUAs (Netscape
Messenger) and QMAIL via IMAP protocol
I must install SSL code server-side!!!!
The very important question for me is: is SSL code included in netscape
messenger ?? or I must install SSL code client-side????
thanks.
