POP-3 slow reaction

Hi everyone,
Linux RH 6.0 host+QMAIL(tcpserver+checkpassword)

I've got a sort of problem:
A client, triyng to connect to POP-3 server stays at CONNECTING TO
HOST...for about 40-70 sec. And then takes it's mail. Sometimes it
connects faster. Sometimes not.

What exactly should I look at to check it out?
