Personally, I found similiar things going on for SuSE Linux. qpopper
coupled with qmail to allow POP3 delivery/fetching on VSM Mailboxes.
The desaster was:
- qmail-smtpd (and qpopper) was invoked by INETD with root permissions.
- qmail's home dir was /usr/local/qmail.
qpopper did not work either.
