Hello. I'm proud to announce a new version of qmail-smtpd-auth patch. We have merged our effors with Eric M. Johnston so now there is again only one qmail-smtpd-auth patch. We have also set up a mailing list, which is available on http://list.elysium.pl/mailman/listinfo/smtpauth . Subscribe there is you want to discuss any qmail-smtpd-auth related matters. Also notice that from now on, i will answer support question ONLY on the maling list. All questions sent to my normal address will be ignored (except when they are f.e. bug fixes and other important things). The patch now uses djb's string library so i supose that it'll be easier to accept for some of you. Changes include: - codebase switch. From now on have merged efforts with Eric M. Johnston <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> so now there are no more 2 separate auth patches but just one. - arguments to qmail-smtpd have changed! See README.auth for further info. - the code is djbized right now - TCPREMOTEINFO is set if sender is properly authenticated. I would also like to invite qmail-ldap, vpopmail , vmailmgr and other qmail addons/modification to share their success stories with us (on the mailing list preferably) so other people can learn from them. Also if you have a modified version of this patch to suit a specific need but does not fit into the main distrio, then i will gladly host it on my site. Finally the URL for qmail-smtpd-auth homepage is: http://members.elysium.pl/brush/qmail-smtpd-auth/ Kris
Hi, at the moment I am using the standard unix authentication (/etc/passwd). One system-user for each Domain (vmailmgr). Now I plan to switch to pam but I did not find anything about how I could integrate qmail. I would prefer it to have the mail-users in a special file/database. Sow do I have to modify qmail and if so - how? Can anyone give me some hints how to integrate qmail into PAM? I am using FreeBSD 4.2 tia /ch

hi all,i need to know how to calculate the number of bounced back/returned mails when sending mails to a list of email addresses.i have qmail installed on a linux box.iam pretty new to qmail. so far, i have been using sendmail wherein there was a option in the sendmail program (-X) which will redirect the entire conversation which my server had with the smtp servers of the recepient boxes to a file. i would then grep the mail ids alone which had returned back from that file.now, iam using qmail-inject and the -X option is not available.iam very much confused as to how to find the number of bounced back mails. iam able to receive all the bounce back mails to my email address. but, i need to count them manually to get the number of returned mails.is there any way to automate the process.i know cgi-perl and all my applications are in perl only. so, a solution in terms of perl would very much helpful to me.advance thanks for the solutions and replies.hoping to get a solution from all of you very soon.

Not in Perl, but you can munge the ascii output with Perl scripts: http://cr.yp.to/software.html, qmailanalog. That package will crank out all kinds of statistics about delivered and bounced mails broken down per sender/recipent if needed. regards, -- Joerg Lenneis email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Set up an account that will only receive the bounces. Make the delivery of that account a Maildir. Do a "/bin/ls -1 | wc -l" in that Maildir/new . The number you get is the number of messages in that box. If you want to start over, remove all the files in that Maildir. Please note that it may take hours and days for bounces to come back. \Maex -- SpaceNet AG | Joseph-Dollinger-Bogen 14 | Fon: +49 (89) 32356-0 Research & Development | D-80807 Muenchen | Fax: +49 (89) 32356-299 Stress is when you wake up screaming and you realize you haven't fallen asleep yet.

Hi All,I have qmail as my mailserver. The problem that i have is as follows:The "delivered to :" field is not there in the mails i receive through qmail. For example : If a mail is sent to m1,m2,m3thenin the mail in m1's Maildir the mail should have aDelivered To: m1To: <m1> <m2> <m3>At present there is no Delivered To : field in the mails I receive.Which control file takes care of this , please helpThanks in advanceMathew
Mathew Chandy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > The problem that i have is as follows: > > The "delivered to :" field is not there in the mails i receive through > qmail. Then qmail-local is not doing the final delivery. Are you using something like vpopmail for virtual user delivery? If you look at the man page for qmail-command, you'll see that program deliveries do not include the Delivered-To: header that qmail-local normally inserts. Well.. thanks to Karsten and everybody. I managed to discover that qmail-smtpd was toasted! Hi,I am trying to use qmailanalog for my analysis....I use supervise on qmail and log my files thru multilog...in a separate directory. On running the following command:tai64nfrac < /mail/log/deliver/current> | \
/usr/local/qmailanalog/bin/matchup | /var/qmailanalog/bin/z* > /mail/log/deliver/log-z*
But when I pipe it through any of the z* commands, I get nothing except
the column headers from the z* command itself. What am I doing wrong?I tried the same with tai64n2tai and tai64nlocal but I get nothing but the column headers from the z* command itself. Can some pls throw some light on this.Raghu

You need to run the logs through tai64nfrac before qmailanalog will analyze them properly. This script is (presumably) available at http://www.qmail.org/top.html. ---Kris Kelley
Hello: I have to convince a couple of customers to replace MS-Exchange w/qmail on OpenBSD. Tech stuff we know apart, He will not accept it if there is no antivirus (since they are using Symantec For Exchange). On QMail's web site i've seen a couple of free stuff and Kaspersky Anti-Virus. The question is, has anyone succeded running this product on OpenBSD? It seems to support Linux/FreeBSD only. And apart from that, any suggestion for antivirus package? He'll need real time scanning of incoming mail/attachments. Hello, i'm quite a newbie to qmail.... i just installed qmail with inetd configuratio using system accounts as mail user. running qmail-pop3d for the pop access and courier-imap. qmail-pop3d is using checkpassword for authentification and its working fine. know i wanted to install qmail-smtp-auth from Dabrowski. it seemed to be just right, but i still can send messages without an authentification. this is my inetd.conf configuration: smtp stream tcp nowait qmaild /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env \ tcp-env /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd \ /bin/checkpassword /bin/true /bin/cmd5checkpw /bin /true pop3 stream tcp nowait root /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup qmail-popup iebserv.ieb.net /bin/checkpassword /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir when i telnet on port 25 i get this after ehlo. 250-AUTH=LOGIN CRAM-MD5 PLAIN 250-AUTH LOGIN CRAM-MD5 PLAIN 250-PIPELINING 250 8BITMIME but i don't have to make auth plain or something before i can mail. i just us 1. mail from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2. rcpt to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 3. data and send the message can anyone give me a hint, why the authentification isn't working? -- best regards Lars Kirchhoff mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

cyrus IMAP may be a good solution for you. Will that also prevent qmail from following any further delivery instructions specified in a .qmail file? In my situation, I have a .qmail file that turns delivery over to vpopmail. I have a .qmail-mileslink that turns delivery over to ezmlm. I want a .qmail-mileslink-blackhole that bit buckets all mail to that address. I want to make sure that qmail won't consult any of the other .qmail files after doing so. Will this technique accomplish this? PS on my last email: I used "|cat", not just "cat" in the .qmail file, in case anyone wonders. Will this technique accomplish this? If qmail has decided that .qmail-mileslink-blackhole is the .qmail file in charge, it'll follow the instructions in that file. It won't subsequently try another file. If .qmail-mileslink-blackhole consists only of comments, then the message will be blackholed. Chris
Hello, I am wondering if I could use qmail when not connected to the Internet. I know it does work, but it takes a very long time until I can connect. I tried it with telnet on port 25 an it took several minutes until the connection got up. I read that the reason for this is that qmail is trying to look up it's own hostname (and it is NOT using /etc/hosts) and therefore tries to connect to the nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf. I also noticed the suggestion to install DNS on the localhost, so I did it, but that didn't help neither. Maybe I didn't manage to configure the named correctly, I don't know... Can anyone tell me a way to get qmail running while offline? Thanks in advance -- Philipp Homan LINUX Network Administrator Mail Boxes Etc. Danube Business Services GmbH http://www.at.mbe.com

Hi Qmail gurus! Ive been running for about 6 months or so on a small network that houses about 3 class C's. The tcp.smtp file was easy and self explanitory. Now a 60,000 user sendmail *shudder* machine has been dropped in my lap, and I want to install qmail on it. My only hangup is the tcp.smtp file.. Since they are still on the old mbox format, I cannot use relay-ctrl with pop3d.. :( Back in nov/dec of last year you could *not* use a domain name in the tcp.smtp file to allow relaying, it was all IP based. I see in the ucspi-tcp CHANGELOG: 20000311 ui: switched to prot; so setgid() is preceded by setgroups(). ui: tcpserver supports -U. --> ui: tcpserver supports hostname rules. <--- ui: tcprulescheck now uses environment variables. I have searched the archives and the website to find only IP examples for the tcp.smtp file. LWQ and the tcpserver manpages only have IP addressed in the tcp.smtp file... Nobody seems to have any other info on hostname based relaying rules. My question: Does ucspi-tcp support hostnames? If so, would they be added as: domain.com:allow,RELAYCLIENT="" or .domain.com:allow,RELAYCLIENT="" Believe me, I would much rather just add the class C's, but we partnered with a much larger (and crappier) company to offer nationwide dialup access, and I dont want to add all of *their* class C's. I would really like to take the old sendmail access file and chop it up into a sutable tcp.smtp file for qmail to use. Hopefully im not the only idiot asking this question. Thanks much! qmail rox! I've never used this feature either, but the original poster should beware that allowing relaying based on hostname is insecure; the sender does (or can) have control over their reverse DNS resolution, and can therefore make their IP address resolve to a hostname in your domain, and proceed to spam the internet silly through your system. Hello. I compiled qmail from source on a RedHat 6.2 Alpha processor box. qmail is running supervised and tcpserver is handling the tcp connections. pop3d is the chosen pop server and is also supervised. I think I'm missing something. I've already touched and chmod 644 ~alias/.qmail-postmaster. It still returns this error: "deferral: Unable_to_chdir_to_maildir._(#4.2.1)". I have tried creating ~alias/.qmail-postmaster as a directory but qmail couldn't recognize it as a mail recipient. I would very much appreciate any assistance. Thanks! Patrick

Hi, I have configured qmail as per instructions but when i try to send to yahoo or hotmail i get the following error: The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop3.marson-net.com', Server: '212.49.77.118', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79 Why should it try to deliver external mail to itself? Please help. Andrew

Possible that SSL makes also trouble and the hostname is encrypted and can not be authenticated by the rcpthosts-file. Regards, Ruprecht
Has anyone heard about a patch which rejects incoming mail (as badmailfrom) if there is more than some numbers of "cc" recipients in it? Greetings, -- * Lukasz Komsta * ICQ 14892426 * * http://www.luke.eu.org/ *
there's a maxrcpt patch on the qmail page F. -----Original Message----- From: Lukasz Komsta [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: woensdag 18 april 2001 8:52 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: "Too many Cc: patch" ? But beware - many UAs play poorly with maxrcpts in that they view a rejection at the (say) 101th recipient as a rejection of all recipients and proceed to subsequently retransmit to all recipients. The net effect is that a UA submission with more recipients than your maxrcpts will repeatedly fail forever. The UAs are wrong and the RFC provides guidance, but the reality is you will get a call... Why should it try to deliver external mail to itself? Please help. Andrew
Hi, like Ruprecht mentioned, it looks like a relaying problem (and SSL may be playing funny bugger too). Hi! I use qmail with vpopmail on a Redhat 7.0 System. When I send an email to the server the mail isn't being delivered. I get these lines in my logfile: Apr 18 09:47:47 hostname qmail: 987580067.908598 starting delivery 44: msg 704647 to remote [EMAIL PROTECTED] Apr 18 09:47:47 hostname qmail: 987580067.908671 status: local 0/10 remote 1/20 Apr 18 09:47:47 hostname qmail: 987580067.914634 delivery 44: deferral: qmail-remote_crashed./ Apr 18 09:47:47 hostname qmail: 987580067.914737 status: local 0/10 remote 0/20 What means to remote? I want the email to be delivered to a Maildir. Why does qmail-remote crash? Thanks Christian Maier
Hello, i manipulate the email header via virtualdomains (fixme:fixup), that works fine. Now i want change the From: field (the domain address part) via script because my unix hosts send the hostname.domain address and i need only the domain address ([EMAIL PROTECTED] --> change in [EMAIL PROTECTED]). When qmail send the mail via qmail-inject -f $SENDER, i see the original email address with hostname.domain in the log file, but qmail rejected this, because only the domain is in dns configured. When i want use the variables QMAILNAME, QMAILUSER, MAILUSER or MAILHOST the are empty. So, how can i manipulate the $SENDER variable with the new email address? Or is there are better idea? best regard Gustav -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net
