You haven't done enough homework about qmail; if you had, you'd know that
conf-split should be a prime number.

300k messages a day is an easy load; you should be able to handle that with
average PC hardware with no problem. Obviously, you've got some major
configuration problems.
However, you've told us nothing about your configuration. Read some of the
mailing list archives, and "Life with qmail". Then send us a _good_ problem
report. Maybe we can help you then.
