Yes, it works fine, I see that coming up each time

This works, /etc/tcp.smtp.cdb is based on /etc/tcp.smtpd

Hi,
1. Did you install relay-ctrl as root and after using "make"; did you
follow "make install-root".
2. Add entry in crontab using crontab -e as given in relay-control doc
3. Make this link
ln -s /usr/local/bin/tcprules /usr/bin/tcprules
4. Check your smtp-script(for -x /etc/tcpcontrol/smtp.cdb), as make
necessary control database file.

Hi,
I am using qmail + vpopmail + omail-admin. I would like to write a
simple program to change the virtual user's password on the web by using the
vpasswd function. I know omail-admin has the function to change password.
But, I would like to disable the forward filed. So, I decide to write one
by myself. Anybody has any idea to do it.
Thank you

Also, check how your OS supports turning UDP checksumming off, and make
sure it's off. It's of no great help on a local switched segment and
affects NFS performance. Are you using traditional NFS or TCP-based NFS?
If performance is the real desired goal, UDP-based NFS is going to be a
lot faster, if not as secure. But, hey, once you're in NFS-land, you're
going to want to keep it all on a tight, local segment if security's even
vaguely your issue.
Finally, you may want to put the server on a gig connection into the
switch, and the client servers on the same switch on 100Mbit FDX.

Others may point out that an observed weakness of the stock linux kernel
from RH 6.1 has been shown to have weak NFS performance when compared to
some of the BSD O/S family.
If you feel comfortable recompiling your kernel, check out

Have you thought about the stopgap measure of throttling down on the
number of concurrent pop3 sessions each machine is allowed? Say you
want to cap it at 50 total. Just use 50/n, where n is the number of
client machines, as the max concurrency for tcpserver (-c). You can
increase the client backlog so all the clients see is a pause (-b).

It will be tempting to throw more hardware at the problem. Depends on
your budget. Right now, I like the the new DDR RAM chipsets for Athlon
processors. I like the idea of 3ware hardware IDE RAID which looks like
a SCSI controller to the system.
Balance the bugetary requirements of upgrading your hardware (without
knowing what the effect will be) vs. changing your O/S (with some
benchmarking already in hand).
Oh, check this out:

Check out slide 37 for relevant conclusions, but the entire presentation
is interesting.

I've read repeated positive reviews with a netapp, but I still would explore
FreeBSD performance first.

Now try a 'cat /var/qmail/bin/qmail-remote'.
Read something about piping and redirection. What you're doing is overwrite
the qmail-remote program with the output of the echo command. Instead, what
you need to do is *pipe* the output of the echo command into qmail-remote.
Use '|' for that.

I've had good luck with NeoMail on my qmail server. I chose it over
others because I felt it had a better user-interface. It doesn't
support Maildir AFAIK. Its only other "fault" IMO is that it's
written in Perl.

yes, it doesn't support maildirs : but omail-webmail is the
branch (based on an early version of neomail) supporting maildirs
(and only maildirs).

that's right... but with a good cpu and some ram, it works fine :)

Is it possible to script qmail-inject to send a full bodied message from the
command line?
I'm trying something like this:
( echo to: alerts@XYZnet ; echo from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; echo subject: logs ;
grep '@customer.com' /var/log/qmail/* ) | /var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject
I get the header, ok, but no body?
Regards,
Lance
you might just need to throw an extra echo in between the subject and grep
so there's a blank line between the header and body...

I bet you got all the matching log entries in the header.
Make sure you put an empty line between the headers and the body.

echo; grep... ) | ..
Regards.
I'm playing with a privacy gateway for whois records. To make a long
story short I want to be able act based on which remote mail server
is sending me the message.
Looking at the environment when I pipe to a perl script I see nifty
settings such as DTLINE, RECIPIENT, LOCAL and HOST.
What I also need is something like REMOTE_SMTP, which would contain
the hostname or IP of the mail hub giving us the email.
Not much of a source hacker I did go into received.c and tried adding
char renv[16];
strcpy(renv, "REMOTE_SMTP");
setenv(renv, remotehost,1);
to received() but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick.
I'm also quite inexexperienced at qmail so sorry if this is well known
but I haven't found it in the doccage yet.

Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)/
^^ There's an example from the logs. It's pretty self
explanatory. When I looked for an explanation I found it
meant exactly what it said, but I figured qmail would be
able to find MXs by itself. DNS for my ISP has had no
trouble, which is what cropped up the question "Should I run
a local DNS server".
Anyway, thank you all very much for the continuing help,
and I apologize again for any inconvenience.

Well, yes you can use your ISPs name servers, they should be in
/etc/resolv.conf
Having said that, as a dialup you should configure qmail to send all
of your email to your ISPs SMTP server and let it worry about it.
That's worth doing for two reasons:
First, many sites purposely reject SMTP connections from dialup
addresses mainly because spammers often send directly from throw-away
dialup accounts.
Second, if the site you are trying to send mail to happens to be down
at the instant you try and send, the mail may sit on your server until
you next dial in, which could be days I guess. If you send it to your
ISP, their server will repeatedly try.
To send all mail to your ISP, simple put their SMTP server in
/var/qmail/control/smtproutes, Something like this:
:smtp.cnmnetwork.com
Regards.
What is the proper way to configure qmail so it does not attempt local
delivery, even when a specific host is given in the email address?
For example, if mail is sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED], I want it to
actually be delivered to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or
[EMAIL PROTECTED]). I thought the proper way to do this would be to
put nothing in control/locals, however this results in the error message
"Although I'm listed as a best-preference MX or A for that host,/it isn't in
my control/locals file, so I don't treat it as local. (#5.4.6)/".
hi all,
i have qmail installed on my linux box
and iam using a perl script to send out mails using qmail-inject.
iam just wondering how to send attachments using my perl script.
i tried but eventually falied. i really dont know what iam missing out.
can anybody please help me out.
there should be a covering message in plain/text and there should be an
attachment.
thanks and regards.

Had the same problem a while ago but now here is the solution.
I went and got MIME::Tools perl module. It came with program called
mimesend. I modified line so it will use qmail-inject to send out emails.
Works perfect. You can go and dl MIME::Tools or you can use the one
I'm using.
mimesend -t [EMAIL PROTECTED] -s Test -f filename.txt
-t <- who gets email
-s <- subject
-f <- file name that you want to send
assumption is that qmail-inject is in /var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject
