POP3 is designed for sites that want to get all the email off the site
as quickly as possible.  IMAP is designed for exactly the other
circumstance.  Switch him over to IMAP.

Yes, it's possible to operate POP3 in an IMAP-like manner.  Don't.  It 
hurts too bad for words.
