that's not really a matter of security - i don't remember any security
problems with the combination of inetd and tcpwrappers in the last
few years. [i don't know if the same can be said about xinetd]
It's a matter of usability and reliability:
* The tcpd (tcpwrapper) might have been compiled with paranoia mode,
which does the wrong thing for emails. You might need to recompile
it.
* inetd's policy in case of an suspected overload is just bad.
Use tcpserver.
