qmail-smtpd dies

I am using qmail 1.03 to send out mails from my Linux box.
other than qmail I use big concurrency patch and dns patch.

I am not able to receive mails using qmail.

Once i start qmail-smtpd it dies immediately !!
./qmail-smtpd &
[1] 28913
[root@www bin]# 220 raju.com ESMTP
[1]+  Stopped (tty input)     ./qmail-smtpd
[root@www bin]#

I get the output this way...!!

How do I start it properly..?? am I missing something..???
