I was unsuccessful in getting this to work at all, and reverted back to
local machine authentification.
I was wondering, if I had so much trouble getting qmail to authenticate to
another source....what is everyone else doing?
I have 2 servers...one e-mail, and the other samba. Users on both machines
are the same. A central place to put in users was what we were aiming for.
nis was working fine on the e-mail server, and you could even ftp in to the
machine, and it would authenticate against the nis server. But qmail-popup
using checkpassword would not.

Subject: checkpassword and nis, or PAM

I am having problems understanding checkpassword, and it's relationship to
PAM/NIS

Pam can authenticate against NIS.
on qmail.org, there is a checkpassword-0.81 patch for pam
I found the older checkpassword-0.81.tar.gz with someone's help, since the
old pam patch does not work on checkpassword-0.90

I patched it, and replaced my old checkpassword with the older patched one.
I can't get qmail-popup (using checkpassword) authenticating against my nis
server.
I even changed the /etc/pam.d/qmail-pop3(which the patched checkpassword
installs)
to look like /etc/pam.d/ftp, because it works...ftp authenticates against
nis, no problems...

Anyone else had these problems, or can give me some insight, or point me to
some docs(looked at all I could find already)

Thanks in advance...
