This is not necessarily the best way to learn qmail.  Also, Bruce's RPMs
don't have "all qmail patches incorporated".  He includes a few patches
he thinks are beneficial, and has dropped several over time.

Which patches do you think you need?  Most people need none.

"selective relaying" and "tcpserver" are the key words/phrases to search
on.

Of course you can.  See qmail.org.  But if the RPMs don't work for you
right away, just install from sources -- go to http://lifewithqmail.org/
and install according to those directions.  Don't use any patches at
all; once it's all up and working, you can start fiddling with patches,
but chances are you don't need any of them.
