Just to follow up on this thread:

Yes, it was my fault ;) Sort of. Actually, the fault was that my ISP's dns
server didn't accept connections on port 53 for TCP, and as such any large
zones needing this type of connection wasn't getting through. I simply just
changed the bind forwarders to other servers (or just remove the forwarding
and use the default zone.hints for root servers if not behind a firewall)
and the problem was solved.

So, I can now testify that (using the bigdns patch) bind 8.2.4 and qmail
1.03 work together for hotmail.com. No, it shouldn't have been a problem,
but goes to show the obvious isn't so obvious. Thanks very much to all who
responded so quickly. All suggestions were helpful in solving this problem
(unlike the poor bastard getting flamed about his/her e-mail client). So no,
qmail ain't broken! But you knew that... ;)
