How does DNS lookup happen in qmail

Hi,

I want to know exactly how DNS lookup happens in Qmail.

I know there is a resolver library in qmail. Is it enough if I forward
the request to a nameserver or must BIND run  on my system,

Also is DNS caching done in Qmail
