you have to set a "remote catchall" to your "local" email-address.

e.g.
remote catchall: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

then emails are send via qmail to your catchall-account instead of beeing
saved in your catchall account's directory directly by vpopmail.

look in your .qmail-default file in your domain directory. here you can see
that vpopmail saves emails send to a catchall account directly in the
Maildir structure. so ".qmail"-files in the catchall directory are not
prosessed. when vpopmail sends emails to a remote catchall qmail delivers
the emails and processes ".qmail"-files (from where vacation messages are
controlled).
