Qmail itself does not use MySQL. But Vpopmail and Qmailadmin can. Vpopmail
will build it's own database and tables if setup correctly. In the
Vpopmail source directory is a file called README.mysql. Follow the
directions in there. You will need to edit the vmysql.h file with the
username and password for mysql. Then you need to do a "make" and a "make
install-strip". I configured and made the programs as the vpopmail user so
that way that user is the owner and not root. You will want to rebuild
the Vpopmail before rebuilding the Qmailadmin. You will just need to do a
configure with the command line I gave you. Then do a "make clean" then a
"make" and a "make install-strip" so that way it compiles in the new
vpopmail header file which is how it knows to use MySQL.
If you do not know much about MySQL I would recommend reading up on it a
little first. It is definately the best way to go. Flat are's are great
for systems with a small amount of virtuals. I am currently moving some
300 virtuals with around 6000 accounts to the MySQL database. If you want
an easy way to manage your MySQL I would recommend phpMyAdmin
(http://phpwizard.net/projects/phpMyAdmin).

Well low and behold. Here I was just going to type to wait for FocalMail
2.0 and there it is. It definately looks like a great program. However I
would hold off until they have any bugs worked out. Looks like some nice
new features however.
