Check for any crontab entries that clean out /var/qmail/users/assign
common if you have ever installed from rpm

your assign file should look something like this
+virtual.com-:virtual.com:510:503:/home/vpopmail/domains/virtual.com:-::

missing that would cause vpopmail accounts to be ignored.

Also verify that /home/vpopmail/domains/virtual.com/.qmail-default exists
should look similar to this
| /home/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail '' bounce-no-mailbox

Without any logs though I am picking common problems, logs would be nice,
particular the working delivery and the triple bounce
qmail-showctl would be nice too

Subject: Invalid logins, although pop accounts exist

Big question regarding the integration of qmailadmin / vpopmail / qmail etc.

I have installed

qmailadmin 0.39
vpopmail (recent version not beta)
qmail 1.03
etc...

I have managed to get a postmaster account into the system, followed all the
instructions, doublechecked file/folder permissions, ensured my passwords
are correct, tripple checked tcpserver / daemontools / apache.

Here is a list of what is happening:

mail sent local to local:
If account is valid, the mail moves to the correct Maildir, I am sure
of this but I have not bothered to install pine (patched) or anything else,
I have simply been manually checking the Maildir.

mail sent local to external:
same as above, but arrives correctly at destination

mail sent external to local:
Mail will end up in correct Maildir if the user exists on the machine
as an /etc/passwd user, (ie. sent an email to local user and email ends up
in ~user/Maildir/new), however, vpopmail users seem to get ignored?¿ If
mail is sent to postmaster, it does a triple bounce (based on logs) and gets
kicked. Unsure of reaction to root account, however, I am sure the same
symptoms will occur.

vpopmail's root is set to default of /home/vpopmail with own privs going to
vpopmail:vchkpw

if I attempt to log into to the qmail admin page (and I know the postmaster
account is set-up correct due to the excistance of
/home/vpopmail/domains/my-dir/postmaster and associated files, but I can not
log into the web interface at all.

Furthermore pop access seems to be on the fritz, as I can not check mail for
postmaster or for local users.

And one last thing, what do you guys make of this string?

drwx--S--- 5 alias qmail 1.0k Jan 12 14:39 Maildir

I am dying to know what that "S" stands for in the perm string.

Cheers,

Sean

P.S. Thanks in advance!
