Try tracing it down with "strace" like.
strace -o my.log vadduser [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I had similar problems today, and it helped me. For me it was a missing entry
in the assign file..., and it showed as (like) "can't chdir to
¡@££2$£½$½$£$]"(machine code).
