Qualix (they've now been bought out and changed their name) produced
such an HA product for Solaris. In the configuration I used, we had
two SUN boxes connected to pairs of disk boxes (via optical cable).
The HA software allowed one machine to take over for another if
something went wrong. This included both taking over the IP and
even taking over the MAC address of the 'dead' machine, so that
external boxes would only notice things like dropped connections
(a retry would then be accepted by the new machine).
