problems installing qmailadmin

Hello list,
is it neccessary to have installed ezmlm to install qmailadmin? I
don�t like to install it but I always get that error message when I do
the ./configure thing. I also cant do the make clean thing. My Suse 6.4
is complaining about the "clean" do I miss something?
