the user vpopmail and vchkpw group are used to compile qmailadmin

What are the permissions on the qmailadmin program?

What are the uid and gid of vpopmail user and vchkpw group?

What does your /var/qmail/users/assign file look like? What are its permissions?

Normally, that error message would include the directory name for the domain. For some reason, vpopmail is failing to return the correct directory (it's empty).

The vpopmail home dir - where the domains are kept, looks good on permissions too

/home/vpopmail]# ls -la
total 32
drwx------    8 vpopmail vchkpw       4096 May 30 13:29 .
drwxr-xr-x   11 root     root         4096 Aug 25 18:45 ..
drwxr-x---    2 vpopmail vchkpw       4096 May 30 13:33 bin

drwxr-x---    8 vpopmail vchkpw       4096 Jul 17 14:14 domains
drwxr-x---    2 vpopmail vchkpw       4096 Apr 14 18:13 etc
drwxr-x---    2 vpopmail vchkpw       4096 Aug 27 22:27 include
drwxr-x---    2 vpopmail vchkpw       4096 Apr 14 18:00 lib
and the assigns file is good too

/var/qmail/users]# ls -la
total 16
drwxr-x---    2 root     qmail        4096 Aug 27 15:35 .
drwxr-xr-x   11 root     qmail        4096 Apr 14 17:01 ..
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root          762 Jul 17 14:14 assign
-rwxr-x---    1 root     qmail           0 Jul 17 14:14 assign.lock
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root         3022 Jul 17 14:14 cdb
