I tried and it dodn't work, so I just installed manually like I have for years. Also at the time, a few months ago, The ebuilds were back on 1.0.6, which didn't work for me. As soon as I can get my Promise SX6000 working with gentoo, I'll try to install from ebuilds and transfer my current mailserver to another one.
I went ahead and committed my changes (allowing compile-time setting of Maildir/.maildir) to CVS. I plan on ultimately making it a configure option to vpopmail, and having qmailadmin derive its setting from vpopmail. This way, gentoo users (or anyone else for that matter) can use the latest builds even if their system uses '.maildir' instead of 'Maildir' as the mail directory name.
