I probably won't be the only one to advise against using Gentoo

Take a look at Bill Shupp's toaster -- <http://shupp.org/toaster/>.
Great instructions on setting up a full qmail/vpopmail/qmailadmin/
simscan/etc. system.
NOD, I have to say that for a lot of things the Gentoo portage tree has
let me down deeply. Being a Solaris guy there are things that are nice
about it like the ability to follow dependancies but the rather strange
and un ordanary placement of files from a "normal" compile install
leaves a bitter taste in the mouth along with the fact that half the
time things are so out dated that support is a nightmare. Well I guess
you can't have it all, all the time. Thanks for the pointer there I
will take a look and see what I can do to get it fixed up.
